You should be playing 10 20 or 25 50, not 50 100
The ideal roll is 50 max buy ins which you roll hits for 10 20
Some people recommend only 20-30 buy ins, which your roll hits 25 50, but it's riskier due to the variance in poker.

Tournament wise, I'd still recommend 50 buy ins(So $20 max with your roll) and I would really recommend you stick to it. Even the professionals go on cold streaks of 40+ tournaments without cashing.

BRM is a nut shell.
If you have a full time job - 20x the buy in
If you do not have a full time job - 40x the buy in.

50nl at the highest as others have said and that still only gives you 20 buy ins. I would look to play 25nl or 30nl with that bankroll.Although i think you can take a shot at 50nl with 1k and drop down to 25nl with 30 buy ins or $750 so that gives you a 5 buy in shot at 50nl.

It depends how much of a risk you want to take but I would suggest that playing $0.50/$1 with a 1K bankroll is far too high. Personally I would recommend playing with at least 40 buyins for cash unless you are willing to run the risk of busting your whole bankroll in a few days. You can play however many tables of this you feel comfortable with. As for tournaments, I would recommend sticking to an average of 100 buyins at least. You can take shots at $22 tournies and try to satty into higher tournies but a responsible average buyin for tournies with a $1000 bankroll would be about $10. Hope that helps!
