Hi, I would really appreciate feedback and help on building a bankroll. Due to the fact that I live in the U.S. it is no easy task depositing a bankroll, and also due to my financial situation. I currently have $4.28 on Bovada. I've won $3.00 of that playing in pokerowned's private free roll's. I play Limit Hold'em and 7Stud for .05/.10, therefor I have less than 20% of a recommended bankroll ($30.00). So I need help/advice on how to build my money up. Previously I won .80 on my first ever free roll that I ran up to $10.00 playing at the above limit stakes, and taking big risk's playing .02/.05 NLHE and heads up PLO. I had initial success but then variance struck. I am going to continue playing pokerowned free roll's among others to help build my roll. Should I stay out of cash games until I reach $30.00 or should I play both cash games and free rolls. I have given some thought to a "Hit and Run" strategy where I go into a FL game win one or two pots, usually around .30-.50 then leave the table. Would this be a good idea for me or not? Last month I played in 29 freerolls and cashed in 9 of them from 10th-3rd places. In total I made about $10.00 on these freerolls. Plus another 2 ($16+$1) tickets for the new player qualifiers. Any advice is appreciated. I won't stop until I succeed either.

Hi well you seem to have a good win rate on freerolls maybe try some small stake SnG's there less number and can be really profitable :p

yes you should stay away from the tables until you have at least 300 big bets in limit holdem, or 20 bi in no limit holdem. you cant do much bankroll managment with that amount of money so your best choice is trying to increase your bankroll on a mtt or stt until you have at least 40 dollars for nl cash games. it wont be bad for you to try 0.02-0.04 fixed limit tables with your current bankroll if you want, but there are lots of risk of getting broke.

It's not an insurmountable barrier for US players to deposit, just not as easy and/or as cheap.

As for not having money to deposit, why not work a few hours to give yourself a $50 or $100 roll. To me at least, this seems FAR more sensible than investing MANY more hours to get there from freeroll winnings.

Agree with this 100%. Better to collect aluminum cans and mow lawns to get a $50 or $100 BR to start (and then start small, small, small, with the $1 SNG's maybe), than to put a lot of time and effort into freerolls, which are almost always huge donkfests. And the worst part is that if you play freerolls again and again, it's often difficult to adapt from that kind of donkish play (shove with 38o) to tighter strategy at the buyins.

Wishing you good fortune ;)

Thanks for all the feedback. It's not that I don't have the money or a job, which I do have both. It's that I don't have a bank account or credit cards. I am working to change this, but all my life I've always just used cash for everything. I know this seems crazy but it's true. I have searched for pre paid visa's high and low but all that I have seen are for U.S. use only.

It's pretty much improbable to live in the US in today's world without any credit...

You won't be able to cash out without a bank account btw, so playing freerolls to build a bankroll would still be kind of pointless without a bank account.

I know but I don't really plan on cashing out for a long time, when I have a lot many moons from now I'll also have a bank account by then and that is when I will worry about cashing out.

I try to adhere to the following rules apply - never lose more than 10 percent of your bankroll per day and never sit at the table in which you want more than 1/30 of my bankroll. Good luck in the game!

Try to accumulate BR bit by bit, then hit the felt if you have now a sizable, safe BR.
Dont try to play with limited BR, it affects your play.
BR management = BR = at least 100 x BB. Either cash or tourney.
Goodluck.

It is very possible to get a good bankroll off of freerolls. That's what I have done. I have yet to ever deposit anything on any site. Never play beyond your limits. Play smart, dont chase. I think it is ok to play the .02/.04 limits, but just don't play with what you are not ok to lose. You don't always have to win big to make a difference. It is perfectly acceptable to nickle and dime your way up to $1 over several hands. There is too much risk trying to play hit and run poker. How I play is to go in a ring game and play like your the short stack in a tournament trying to stay alive.

Good luck at the tables :)

I built my roll from freeroll winnings, but that was back when a decent freeroller could expect to win hundreds of dollars per month. It's simply not like that any more.

Sure, you can still build a roll from nothing. But how long will a person have to play to build his roll to say $100?

And I've never understood why some people seem to take pride in never having deposited. Care to explain why this is something to be proud of?

I'm proud of it because it is something I enjoy doing. I don't plan on making boatloads of money off of playing online poker. If I don't have to put money into something I enjoy doing then I see that as something to be proud of.

To each his own. However, this seems to be a reductio ad absurdum argument. People don't have to plan on making lots of money to deposit.

It seems to suggest that had you deposited even a small amount, you wouldn't be proud, or at least that you'd be less proud. If that works for you, fine. It's not my place to judge how you feel about yourself.

But I still don't understand. I'm a recreational player. My roll and the money I've taken away from poker over the years started with freeroll winnings. I can't see myself feeling any different if they had started with a small deposit.

I guess its the fact that I don't have to deposit to make money. If I can put $0 into something and win money, I can't technically ever be in the hole. So why not do that. I don't play anything more than micro stakes anyways. I guess I would just rather not deal with the depositing. If I can run something up from $0 great, if not I'm out nothing.
