For the past 2 weeks I've been doing some winning at 10NL at Carbon and FF and I been at that level a long time. So I'm thinking about giving 25NL a try. So my question is "what kind of play do I need to use at that level"? At 10NL I have opened up my range some and that might be why I'm winning more, but if I go up, should I go back to playing tight if I do move up?

It is always a good idea to tighten up on a new level until you see what is going on and who is who.

I would recommend tightening down your range a little and excercising pot control more often while paying even more attention to your position and opponents ranges.

Once you begin to feel comfortable at this level perhaps open your range but I would still not recomend playing any higher than say 20/15 unless you are sitting on a weak table, tighter even on a strong table (this is for 6 max, tighter if full ring).

Also if you are multi tabling the 10NL I would suggets dropping down to 1 or 2 tables while you "take your shot" at 25NL.

I can't really give too much other advice without knowing more about your playing style already and the extent to which you are crushing 10NL but hope I helped some!

I play 10 NL through 200 NL on Carbon.

25 NL & 50 NL you'll probably see less "ABC" poker.

One session at Carbon's 50 NL, I had a guy check raise me with complete air from the BB heads up on the flop. I called him down light and saw he had complete garbage at showdown.

For your question on playing tight. I'd say playing tight is a smart thing to do until you got a good read on the 25 NL regs at whatever table you're at. When you have strong hands, you obviously have stronger equity against their range. When you play speculative hands you're crossing your fingers hoping you hit a strong draw or set.

25 NL+ you're still using the same fundamentals. Playing in position, focusing on your villain's hand range, paying attention to their bet sizing, and etc. Not calling UTG raises with KJo in the SB etc LOL (unless you know the UTG raiser is super loose) then you could probably just 3-bet them if you know they have a high Fold to 3 bet.

Oh yeah I forgot... get ready to get 3 bet A LOT at 25+ NL. People will iso 3 betting more to isolate weaker players etc.

I ran out of time trying to edit my original post.

Here's just an example of the type of stuff you see at 25/50 NL.

Merge - $0.50 NL - Holdem - 8 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

Hero (CO): 100 BB
BTN: 33.3 BB (VPIP: 85.71, PFR: 57.14, 3Bet Preflop: 50.00, Hands: 7)
SB: 119.06 BB (VPIP: 57.14, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 7)
BB: 144.02 BB (VPIP: 14.29, PFR: 14.29, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 7)
UTG: 118.4 BB (VPIP: 42.86, PFR: 14.29, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 7)
UTG+1: 46.72 BB (VPIP: 45.45, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 11)
MP: 42.96 BB (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 7)
MP+1: 100 BB (VPIP: 42.86, PFR: 14.29, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 7)

SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has :4d4: :4c4:

Hero raises to 3 BB, fold, fold, BB calls 2 BB

Flop: (6.5 BB, 2 players) :7h4: :10d4: :7s4:
BB checks, Hero bets 3.24 BB, BB raises to 9 BB, Hero calls 5.76 BB

Turn: (24.5 BB, 2 players) :ks4:
BB checks, Hero checks

River: (24.5 BB, 2 players) :kd4:
BB checks, Hero checks

BB shows :5h4: :8h4: (Two Pair, Kings and Sevens)
(Pre 49%, Flop 39%, Turn 20%)
Hero shows :4d4: :4c4: (Two Pair, Kings and Sevens)
(Pre 51%, Flop 61%, Turn 80%)
BB wins 11.58 BB
Hero wins 11.56 BB

Rake paid 1.36 BB

(RAKE WON! We both lose...)

My thought process on calling the check raise. My spider senses were telling me this dude was trying to steal the pot. (I highly doubt villain had 67s or 78s ESPECIALLY when Villain checked the K turn OOP when I called the raise.) Also if villain had a T, wouldn't villain want to control the pot with a Tx hand instead of bloating it out of position? When the K came on the river I was counterfeited and obviously the only way I'd win the pot is if I bet the river IP. I was 50/50 on betting the river. I decided not to, because the way I played my hand was pretty weak. Bet/call-> ck/ck-> so on the river I thought villain would have an ace and call my bet thinking I had 22-66, or any Jx, Qx type hands... or worse another check/raise on the river.

I may have played that hand terribly, but I'm just trying to show that at 25/50 NL people will try and exploit the player and not focus on their own two cards. You just have to decide on whether their betting or raising story makes sense from pre flop all the way to the river.

Wow. With all this maybe I need some study. But I never have studied anything except for my past mistakes, and the way I feel, and what cards I'm holding. ConDeck my playing style is Tight pre-flop and aggressive post-flop if I catch, and it can even be middle pair. Ok the tighten up is easy for me, but here lately I've started opening up my range at 10NL and as a result, I been winning more than I remember for awhile. I've also started playing more than I have. I feel like if I going to win any money at playing, I have to put in the hours. This is my thinking right now. I'm doing ok at 10NL right now with BR getting bigger. And the fact is, I can't get the money right now because I have no ID right now. Anyway, should I risk losing $25 just to test that. The things you all are telling me is always a lot of help, and I'm going to use it to keep me at 10NL until I double what I have. My BR also answers a lot questions. But anyway, thanks for the replies. I'm here to learn. GL everyone today no matter what you do. I'm fixing to pull a 7 hour session at Carbon and FF. Been along time since I tried that.
