The thing is that it looks like I am going to be one of the people sponsored by Pokernews finland for T6's 250k guarantee which is a rebuy/add-on tournament.

I want to hear if anyone has ideas how to best play this tournament because I have only one buy-in and I haven't played a lot of 6-max.

I think the blind structure will be similar to the 300k Sunday on partypoker, so I am thinking that there is very little need to get involved in the rebuy period if the stacks are deep and I don't have a premium hand or a hand with a lot of implied value...?

Also as I know my tournament strategy so well in full ring, how does the tournament being 6-max affect the game? Is there any good resources on 6-max MTTs?

I did get sponsored. I think it is interesting that I have had no replies to this thread and I can't find a single article on 6-max tournies (plenty on cash games and sit-n-goes).

Congrats on getting sponsored, perhaps you could expound on how/why that happened.

As for how to play a rebuy? WOW, seriously loaded question.

What is high stakes in this case? If you get a free ride into it, are you just considering the prize pool as high stakes?

Post the tourney structure here so that we can share our ideas.

Also, how many others might have got sponsored in?

Well, in the Finnish forums of Pokernews there was a competition that the best two posters and a third random poster would be chosen. This week there were only three posters in the limits of the competition, so basically I got chosen automatically.

I consider it to be high stakes in the prize pool being 250k and the buy-in being 165 euros. Especially, I wanted to hear from players that have played in such tournaments about how wild the play is going to be since I only have one buy-in.

I was unable to find the exact blind structure, but I know there will be 15 minute levels and the rebuy period is for one hour.

i think a good player can have sucess at ANY rebuy tournameny online, they are so soft.

lol wrong and wrong!!! First of all in rebuy tourneys you need some luck at the beginning during first hour, yes. Second of all after the break the game depends on the level of play which means at higher stakes the play is more likely to be better than for instance at 1$ rebuy. Rebuy tourneys are actually not soft, if there are a lot of people in the rebuy tourney for instansce 3$ rebuy on stars, you cant be just a good player and win it you have to get the right cards, be able to steal blinds and get paid off on your big hands.

Ok back to the original question, I'm going to try and answer it...Ok you did mention that you will only have one buy in which isnt great but you can work with it. There are always someone rich in a rebuy tourney that will just play crazy, you want to stay away from that person during first hour unless your hand is very very strong. Since blinds are 15 minutes I think you got plenty of time to wait for good hands. If you pay attention its fairly easy to figure out players, to see who is playing to win and to see who is just trying to cash, so during the bubble period you want to put pressure on the players that are just trying to cash and are around your stack, make sure to stay away from the players who are willing to risk, obviously if you pay attention you will be able to see who and what I'm talking about. Also don't be afraid to use position and steal every once in a while if you have a tight image, like for example sometimes when I play a 6 handed tourney I will raise on button with a hand like 10Jh for example, if i get called I see a flop and play the hand from there depending on the flop and the other player. I'm sure there are better articles and stuff for this but gl

Well try get them to sponsor you more than 1 buy in.
You'd need at least 3 or 4.
Otherwise whats the point in playing a "Rebuy" with 1 buy in?
I guess you'll just have to play extra tight until rebuy period over.

Playing a rebuy tourney with no rebuy capability is.... well its going to hurt.

Ill go thru 6-8 buyins sometimes on rebuys.... its just essential in order to build a big chip stack in the rebuy period so you can bulldoze the other players when rebuy is over.

I dunno if I only had 1 buyin, id play ultra tight cuz ya gotta win the first all-in.

Since you have only the sponsored entry, you won't be rebuying or having to deal with that. But you must understand that there are a lot of donks in the world who will rebuy time and again until they finally double up. It is amazing to watch a player rebuy 5-10 times, and wont slow down until he has only won his own chips back.

Rebuys start off in a frenzy. Folks want to double up fast. Almost every hand that gets a raise can turn into a shove fest.

In your case your only play is to be patient until you have a huge hand dealt to you. AA, KK, and maybe QQ NO OTHER HANDS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED at this point. You want to go far in this, and during the rebuy period, the game is more closely related to a freeroll than any other comparison.

It probably won't happen, but even if you get a limped bb, and hit, it should be a huge hit to continue.

DO NOT concern yourself with stack sizes. Your's will be the smallest. Accept that. It does not mean you can't play a solid game and succeed.

The first hour (rebuy period) the play will look very loose, and borderline maniacal. Don't get caught up in the frenzy.

After the rebuy/add on hour is gone, play will get normal. Sort of. The big stacks will have a devil may care attitude. They very likely are heavily invested, and got really lucky just before that first hour is up, and they will play like they are the kings of poker.

One double up in the first hour is enough, you will still be short stacked comparatively, but not crippled if you hit the first break with twice the starting stack.

It got very crazy. We were three handed as there were a constant stream of sitouts being handed to our table (WTF sitouts at this level?).

So anyways I got a bit looser + aggressive and was trying to take advantage of position and was doing it well as I had almost 3k in chips.

After this I went up and down in chips until a bad hand where the villain paid a lot for the flush draw to hit, but I had problems laying down my hand to his smallish bets. Ok, I was at just over 1000 chips and the level was already 50/100! So at the end of it all ended up pushing Q8 against the same villain on A4Q board, he had Q9!

A few things I have to note are that the blinds are quite fast compared to the likes of the 300k guaranteed and that are hundreds of sitouts  . Maybe I was a bit too aggressive, but atleast in my table there wasn't any rebuy maniacs, just a normal maniac who was catching cards to knock me out...

And I forgot to say that in 1h 15mins there are 500 players left from the original 1200...
