I play limit. I note what kind of hands people start with, what hands they raise with, how they play the hands after the flop. I will note poor starting hands in the player notes and mark them with a green dot. (green because it is the default and this is the first thing I usually see on a player.) If they raise with marginal hands, I note that, too. If somebody starts with real garbage or refuses to release a third pair to the end, for example, I will mark them with a blue "fish" dot. Since there are fewer limit players, I can usually find a table with green and blue dots to play. A few players I have given other dots to designate better players, stealers, etc. All are subjective, of course, compared to my superior play.
Here is an example of a green dot note:
65o crA2s Arag
This means (to me) that this person
Called the blind with 65 off suit.
Called a raise with Ace 2 suited.
Called the blind with Ace and something less than ten off suit.
