The reason being I deposited on carbon and the traffic during the day is quite bad. (im in the UK). Its not until later in the evenings that you can even play a decent number of FR tables at 10NL or 25NL. So outwith peak hours the only option is 6max (for some reason there are always 6 handed tables available :S)

I did some 5NL 6max on FTP just to test things and it does just feel like FR without EP - which it basically is I guess. It actually seemed quite fun because you can play more hands but I think it might be a good idea to play with a 60-75bb stack until I get more comfortable

Yeah you're right FR tables that are available are so much limited to 6max and when you do find a FR table - it's usually full and people waiting. As for 6max, the difference is quite huge - especially the swings. So if you can't handle variance then I'd stick to FR and go to a bigger site, maybe pokerstars. It is a lot more fun though 6max and there does seem to be more fish but you will often find in most hand you are involved in if there has been betting pre flop that you have to be willing to stack quite often. The all-ins and aggresion at 6max are so so much more than FR. I play both, although I'm grinding out FR at the minute as I took a hit at 6max and my BR dwindled quite a lot. I think I lost about 12 buy-ins in one session.

FR gives you the option of playing tighter and the swings aren't any where near as bad like I say. If you get rake though or some sort of bonuses for fpp's then 6max offers this so much more than FR so it's a bit of both really, you can make a lot more in rake but also take a big loss in variance.

As for shortstacking, I don't recommend this - not at 6 max anyway. You need to be fully stacked IMO to take advantage of all the loose calls and you will often be shipped on a hell of a lot more with a shortstack. If you do plan on playing short stacked though, then you're going to have to be extra aggressive, ship it pre-flop or post flop or again you're going to be finding yourself constantly topping up and losing money. Be prepared to playing looser as you can't play tight at 6max as the blinds will just cripple you.

Thanks for the input. I need to stick it out on Carbon for a few months to clear my deposit bonus so ill need to play some 6max outwith peek hours.

I have played quite nitty on FR in the past but do open up alot in later positions so I do a fair amount of stealing, restealing/squeezes and blind play in general.

What are the standard stacking ranges in 6max? Alot of players in fullring will only do so with AA,KK and maybe QQ, AK (more so bvb or btn vs blind). Obviously you do get more wild players stacking lighter.

So whats standard stacking 6max..im guessing AK+ and QQ/JJ+.

I guess the 3betting ranges are lighter also..but its all player dependant.

The swings in 6 max aren't that bad. 6 max isn't as wild and crazy as some people think. Don't short stack

6-max stacking ranges:
Generally never folding JJ+/AK to anyone but supernits

in later positions like BTN vs. blinds widens
blinds vs. blinds 77/AJ

Just wondering why are you playing on Carbon if you're in the UK?

Wow you seriously stack with these ranges? I don't know what spew means but surely this isn't standard at 6-max? I think you are will be behind most other villains stacking ranges, even the loose ones...

Really depends on stakes & reads, but I've stacked off pre with 77 on more than one occasion playing 6-max and been ahead (of smaller pairs or really bad overcards like KQ). But you're right, its far from standard.
