Just been sat at a table for 30 mins watching this guy bet and raise practically every 2 cards he was delt.

watched his profit go up and up.

He seemed to play any picture card, any pair and any connecter.

Trouble was I just couldnt get delt a hand whenever he was playing. GRRRR

I sat there thinking.. I'll get you!! but never even got the chance.. whilst he trebbled his cash in 30 mins

DAMN DAMN DAMN

Should I have loosened up my starting hands (I play on the loose side of tight already) or was i right to stick to my guns on this?

i think you were right to stick to your guns on this. no sense in adding to his stack. he most likely cbets and when you miss your flop he takes the pot. somebody will take him down eventually.

I think with a maniac, tighten up then nail him when you get a monster.

depends on # of plyrs and if he is only manic preflop or all the way. If you can play a hand hu or maybe 3 way then have to loosen up vs all the way maniac. Can't let him steal the blinds and can't fold cbets to bullies unless they're smart enough to slowdown and only use aggression to their advantage. You have to call down with alot of holdings if he can't help but bet (but not with others in the pot letting him bet).
Edit: I know Stus talking limit though he didn't specify, NL obv need to wait for some cards

Play the game not the players. Limit your tilt and exposure. You will prevail in the long run. Gl ! You know this because you are the best ever Stu...lol

I don't usually care about spelling, but trebbled? You mean tripled right?

Common situation..had it last weekend. Two friends/calling stations sitting straight to my right and just giving hordes of money away to a drunk LAG hitting everything (raising dark). Some of the better players got involved and got drawn out on, it was a blood bath.

The whole time I'm getting dealt a massive run of cold cards and can't get involved. I end up making a raise with Q8s one off the button, miss the flop and get LAG to fold because my image was so tight. Thats how bad my cards were, that making a move with Q8s against calling stations and a drunk LAG looked good. I got lucky, but should have never done it.

Anyway, you should adjust your play to the table. I tend to loosen up when a table is passive preflop, but aggressive post flop. Lots of limping, but then tons of action. It allows me to get in cheap and try to hit a monster knowing the action will come. If a table is aggressive preflop, I tighten up and look for the opportunity to push back.

So to answer your question, if you were given the opportunity to limp or get in relatively cheap in position then you should have started to loosen up your range.
