The deeper the stacks get, the more of an edge the better players have. If you are in a game with players that may be more experienced or skilled, playing short stacked can actually reduce their edge a little bit.
Why would you want to play short against fish? You are reducing your own edge against them. Weak players usually stack off in bad spots or with poor equity, so why would you want to minimize profit in those situations? You also weaken your implied odds
when holding speculative hands or small pairs for set mining, and these hands can usually be huge cash cows against players that stack off lightly.
