So I was playing live in a casino yesterday (Actually won a $300 high hand :)) and I noticed something. Every time a few of the players at the table announced their raise they were usually bluffing. Is this a common tell or was it just coincidence?

I do see someone announcing the figure they are betting as feigning strength, partly because I have done it on occasion, but then as with anything it could be a double bluff and they may have the goods.

In general, I would be inclined to agree with you that it can be a tell.

i always announce raise and the amount that way there is no confusion that it is a raise then i get an extra few min to decide the amount so i guess it depends on the player.

I always announce a raise myself, if i'm bluffing are not.I quess vs some players it might be a tell but you would have to see it more often then a couple of times an see the holdings.

I always announce my raises. it gives me the freedom to do as i wish with my chips before actually committing them. i have seen two many people say raise after they had commited some chips to the pot and i have learned from this. but to the point, no, i dont think it makes much difference if someone declares a raise or not as far as a tell. like anything else, if they think you have picked up on it, they might do it or not do it to throw you off a little bit.

Most of the casinos in my area instruct players to verbally announce the size of a raise to avoid confusion, so I would say no in that case.

I will however, watch to see if it is a tell for some players. Have not really monitored it previously. hmmmmm

Yea I don't know if I would rely on that tell because ive caught myself doing it both ways, guess it depends if they keep doing it and you have a decent hand, test the waters
