I think I might use this to my advantage. Just for fun, I went to $1 sng to fool around. I won the tourney but I pissed lot of people off. After winning, if I was favorite to win and I eliminated someone, I would say "YES, THAT"s WHAT IM TALKIN ABOUT" if I was underdog, I would say "WOOHOO GOD LOVES ME". people were telling me to shut up. I told them, "go f00k urself. don't be mad just bcz i got more chips than u and that i'm better than u" When I keep raising the blinds and everyone folds, I would induce bluffs, show them my cards, and then call them "pussies". People got mad, they called me with Q 8 suited, etc.

I started talking lot of shlt and then since I was chip leader, I kept raising and pissing people off, stealing blinds. One time, this guy all ined, I got caught bluffing, but i was pot-committed, I called with 5 8 offsuits, got lucky and eliminated him. But when I got good hands, people would move in with anything against me because they think I'm fooling around and they have this anger that tells them "you should f--k this guy up and shut him up"

Do you think this can be good strategy to the game or do you think it's an asshole approach to the game? Although I'm a nice guy in general, I tested this just to see if provoking people's anger is likely to put them on tilt easily.

My hypothesis: More anger and hate you have in your mind against someone in the table = more likely you'll call any raise with any hand or your marginal hands will be more loose, lose the tight-play and go on tilt easily.

Of course, smart people won't fall into this and just simply mute me. And then try to play best solid poker, ignoring asshole actions and playing their cards. But for people who get emotional and get angry easily, I think this might be good strategy. What do you guys think? Please don't hate me or call me names. I did this just for the test as an experiment. I am generally a nice guy and I like to help and have nice games.

You jerk...that was me you pissed off. I hate you!

Naaaaah, just kidding.
It can work against alot of people. I have had to catch myself a few times from trying to be the one that knocks out the jerk at the table.
And yes, pissing people off can put them off their game. Thats why boxers do it before matches. If the other guy gets mad and just starts head hunting, you stick to your plan, you will probably win.

One thing I would add, Im not sure about too much cussing. I know FullTilt has a link to report abusive/vulgar chat. They dont seem to enforce it too much, but you wouldnt want to be the exception. Just my opinion anyway.

anger is a tool

but one i dont employ...in fact i seldom speak at all...but i dont say anything when i,m sucked out on,or when i hit a great hand...because truely what ever appears in that chat window has absolutely nothing to do with the 2 cards i,m holding and how i choose to play them.but i mean no offense here, but i,ll say this...as a man i just think its childish...i come to play cards not hear a bunch of gloating or name calling...i just like the game..and i prefer playing it with like minded adults...its a free country, play as you wish, but in the over all scheme of things...win or lose...what we say and how we present ourselves has nothing to do with cards..but everything to do with your character and integrity..i wish you well

Now the question is would you employ the same tactic at the wsop table featuring Chuck Liddel or at a casino/home game that would get you banned/beaten as a result of it :p.

I'd say this would be more appropriate in poker general as it isn't exactly sound strategy, i know where you are coming from as there are a few players who do try to intimidate and are rude at the table at times and it works for them (see Tony G) but being loud, rude and obnoxious as you suggest just puts a target on your back for online/live card room staff rather then players in my opinion.

I like polite poker games. I guess I am just an old fasioned guy. If someone talks trash like that I would probably never want to have anything to do with that person ever again.

That would definitely work to get some people on tilt, because i remember playing at bodog with someone like that who said " thank you god " and some other stuff when ever he won, and that was pissing me off lol but im glad it was a tournament and we changed tables because i was definitely tilting, so if your able to focus on your cards while at the same time pissing people off to tilt them, keep doing it if it's woking for you.

Playing angles will backfire on you. I was on the $$ bubble one time in a tourney and I was in the BB the next hand. I had 3x the BB and told the table "if I get a ten high next hand, I am all in." I woke up with KK and one guy limped so I pushed. He had A3 and ace hit the flop. Ace hit flop and I was out. The blinds were so big at the time that he might have folded when I pushed all in, if I would have kept my big mouth shut. Pissing off the table will have the whole table after you. You might get AA and some guy will call you with 45 and hit a straight, flush, or 2 pair. Then the only person that will be pissed will be you.

Using this strategy will work on some people but not others. I like players that do this, I don't let their chat get to me, but it is usually easy to chip up with the right hands. But I do know a lot of people that go on tilt quite easily with chat like this.

It's not worth it, regardless. Dignity is more important than victory.

Besides, this kind of behavior is bad for the game. The ol' don't tap the tank thing.

I kinda looked this up and then watched few videos. It does work against emotional people. Watch Scotty Nguyen losing huge chip stack to Phillip Hilm. Phillip Hilm was being a douchebag, pissing Scotty off and talking lot of crap, saying "cmon scotty, i need to double up, u gonna do it baby?" teasing Scotty's line against Scotty. Another one is Jamie Gold. I think Jamie Gold is perfect example of pissing people off. But some of the people here got a point. Some people can just call and then suck out. Then you have nothing else to say. lol.

Yeah I understand the whole anger part, it can put people off their game, but that time you get caught it could cost you... so I guess if thats your style than go ahead but i dont think that it is the most effective way but could work..

I like the dignity and camaraderie of the game. It's not war. It's a game. I respect my opponents.

I would say that this is a strategy that can work, but won't go as far to say it's a good strategy. Those comments can certainly get under people's skin but for me, the comments you mention are more disrespectful than a tactic to tilt opponents, so I don't go for this sort of strategy. Maybe people like Scotty Nguyen might disagree with me and say that tilting opponents with whatever methods necessary to gain an advantage is fair game (e.g., 2008 H.O.R.S.E. championship).

Regardless, I think you make a good point about the relationship between anger and poor play. Again, as you've said, not everyone will fall into this trap, but anger clouds people's judgment in general. Our emotions at times can override our rationale thinking, and of course can affect how effectively you can make decisions.

One other thought - even though hate and anger are negative emotions and are related, I would be inclined to say that anger is really what pushes people over the edge more so than hate. For instance, you can still hate a player but still respect his/her play enough that you may play properly.

I like the dignity and camaraderie of the game. It's not war. It's a game. I respect my opponents.

Your words do have meaning.
