I was playing a freeroll the other day. I have a stack of around 22k, blinds are 400/200 and i am in the big blind. My hand 9-4

Everyone folds, but 1 guy who goes all-in with a grand total of 590 chips.
I think what the heck its only another 190 chips and calls, he shows A-Js and i get lucky and get a pair thus knocking him out.

After that i get called a donkey and a lucky noob. I have been thinking bout it alot since, and i would most likely do it again given the same situation.

First of all i hate to see severe short stacked folks get extra chips uncontested, + i myself would go all-in when i am about to be blinded out with just about any hand that just looks pretty.

Even though i know that 9-4 is crap, the cost of calling in relation to my stack is pretty much nothing so why not do it.

Had i folded the caller would have 1190 chips for sure, vs 1380 had he won the hand. Very little difference for him aswell in my humbe opinion.

In anycase i ended up 6th in the tourney, and i did not see any of the name callers at the final table so i at least won that round:)

Question is though was that a donkey call?

If stack ratios are 10:1 or greater you should call a shove with any two cards.

(Only donkeys don't know that ;)).

you were the BB if im correct ...thats 400 chips

if he went all in with 590 you have all the odds to call plus your stacked....anyone on here will tell you thats an instant call.....

no matter what hand you

see AG beat me to it with the correct mathmatical odds^^^

i guess only donkls dont know the correct odds ;)

Easiest call in the world, absolute no brainer. 15/1 odds when you are what, 6/4, 2/1 against random hand?

Opponent is a fool, there is a reason he is playing freerolls (oddly enough, the higher the level you play, the less you tend to get people calling others donkeys and noobs - weird!?).

It was not a donk move. He was just mad because he got himself into a terrible place and then got a little unlucky.

He could have been all in with any two cards in that situation, and in fact, he should have been all-in with any face card a lot earlier.

Your play was fine. Don't worry about it.

Where I play my live games they's give me hell if I was in your position and folded. You've got the guy stacked and like you said the damage to you is pretty much minimal if you come out behind. Instacall!!

OMW.... I cant believe it. Its most definately an instant call.

I was playing earlier and had the same situation in a 6 man Sng).In the BB for 400 and dealer goes all in for 450 (an extra 50 instant call!), however SB calls too and has a similar stack to mine aprox 1.6k. My cards are 7h2h....um I should fold here with SB calling. However I play a lot of games with the SB and know his game quite well - if he had a hand he would have reraised to isolate the Dealer, so i call. Turns out Dealer has J 10 off, SB has Q 3 off. I hit a flush on the river and lmao as dealer derates me for being a DONKEY!.

This is perhap a bad example, however for the odds you are getting it is worth the call IMHO.

Anytime some one calls you a donkey be thankfull. It is the lastest code for" you are the best and I dont know how to play agaist you" statement. The implied and real odds in this situation demand that you call. I'd call with 7/2 off here even!

(oddly enough, the higher the level you play, the less you tend to get people calling others donkeys and noobs - weird!?).

So true!

I always found the most "poker pros" :p playing in the freerolls telling everyone how good they are and calling everyone that beats them donks. I always found it so nice that they would take time out from playing the High Stakes Cash Tables to come play freerolls to offer their "pro" advice. :D

+1 to the "100% standard call every time" camp.

Not much else to be said really.

Donk is used so far out of context now in poker play that the term is essentially meaningless to most who know what it originally meant. Bottom line is that you won the game and took a player out of a tourney. Congrats and don't feel bad about making a call that ANY good player would have.

The truly "donk" move here, would have been a fold.

Was the right move, i guess. But i believe this guy was just upset and not a gentleman. The fact is that it's hard to find gentlemen in online poker games.

Instant call, and I wouldn't worry about the text book experts.

Sorry Ken But what do you mean here.

They (Ilovesthepoka) had an affiliate link in their signature, but I believe that one of our awesome mods removed it :)
