Top two pair is good most of the time on the flop, given there is no straight or flush out there. If I'm 100bb deep and have top 2 against a loose over aggrssive player I'll get it in everytime and I guess sometimes they'll have me beat most of the time they should have tptk or worse two pair. Don't let the results get you down if they're dumb make them a friend and wait patiently for your hand to be good and take their $

Its hard to figure an over aggresive player out, you just try to play smart and wait for the best hand. I just had a set of 6s on the flop to a pair of 4s and lost on the river when they caught a str8. You never can say if you have the best hand!gl

yea depends on the odds, if there is a good chance of a straight or flush two pair does no good so even though its tempting, either bet them out before they can get their draws or fold quick :/

Depends on too many factors. I think you'd be better of posting a specific example, because usually general advice isn't that good.

i had a similar situation when I hit trips in a SnG... the river brought such a scary board with three to a flush and a straight with an ace possible... he shoved again and i just couldnt bring myself to call...

Who you are playing against determines a lot.

If I flop top two against a guy who goes all-in every flop, I'll get my money in there with him most of the time.

If I flop top two, a guy check/raise shoves me and I haven't seen him play a hand in the three hours I've been at the table . . .

Well, I just may get it in there with him too.

But it's a much more difficult decision.

its not that hard, right now its about knowing what your opponents have then rather what you have. If you do not know your opponents its better for you to call his raises till the river unless it gives a four card strait draw on the board.

its kinda hard to tell EXACTLY what your opponent has, if you dont know your opponents and have no reads than its better to fold..and you dont just call raises til the river..you can fold/raise

Are we talking tourney or cash game. In a tourney I don't think I'm ever laying this down vs a laggy player, even with a possible str8 or a flush draw. Too often it's a semi bluff. The only exceptions might be broadway flops or paired flops and even then I'm calling with a short stack.

I think weregoat hit the nail on the head. I would never fold top two against a lag player but if the player is not playing many hands it is an easy fold.

Assuming that's literally true, I'm calling this. Think about it statistically. If he's all in literally every other hand, how often do those hands beat 2 pair? I don't know the exact numbers, but it's well under 50%.

I had a guy do this to me last night. 10nl, I think I had 44 and the flop was 456 rainbow. He shoves for $8 or so, but had been playing SO crazy I just couldn't assime the hands that beat me (23, 37, 55, 66, 78) were a significant part of his range. His range was huge. So I called, knowing this could be One Of Those Times where some nitwit calls a pfr with crap and gets lucky.

He didn't. He had AKo, gave me his stack, and left muttering about what BS it was. This is why wildly aggressive play like that feels good, but is really bad. They push the table around and win a lot of little pots, and get called by hands that crush them. He could have learned I had a hand I was serious about playing with a much smaller bet.
