Hi guys, im pretty new to poker and playing on mico stakes ($0.02/$0.04) and wondering whether you could advise me on how i could have played this hand better?

On the river i checked (which i realise is abit of a mistake - but for some reason I thought someone had two pair (no idea why i thought this); and wanted to see if someone was going to raise.

yea the only mistake you made was not betting on the end. i can understand why you did not, but not the two pair reason. there was a possible straight and flush draw on the board, and you could have been beaten. however, you still have to bet.

No, you don't have to bet that river. It would be a pretty terrible bet actually.

Your bet sizing is too small - on the flop you bet 16c into 48 which is well under half the pot. Bet at least 35 there. Same with turn, as played bet like 70 or so. I'm too lazy to count stack sizes, but you should probably be able to get all in by the turn, if not then get it in on a blank river. As played that's a terrible river card for you and checking is standard.

Seat 5: Jojomofo - $2.45 - Why don't you have a full stack?

As Chick said not betting the river is fine but you should have been all-in before that time. Preflop a raise to .20 would have been better.

but why is betting wrong? chances are that they did not hit anything.

Chances are they did hit something, still two in the hand at the river a very risky bet here, best to check see where you stand, as chuck says should have ramped it up on the flop.

By only betting 1/3 of the pot you are inviting the players chasing a straight and a flush to keep playing. You need to make a 2/3 to pot size bet to give them the wrong pot odds to call.

I would not have bet the river either as only those that can beat you will call or even raise.
