Supposing I have A J on the button, and I raise pre flop to maybe 3 x BB and get two callers. One being the BB one being a limper in before me, what is the best action to take after the flop if I miss totally ?

It depends (a vague answer for a vague question)

Very vague question. First thing I would want to know is how much did you miss? did the flop come 663 did it come 889? Are you suited? Did the board add flush or str possibilities.

Yea like the others said.. its really vague.. you're question.. you need to explain the situation better and it all depends on if you're playing tight or aggresive players.. perhaps under normal circumstances.. put in a bit of a raise...

Without more information it's hard to say, but, usually I will make a continuation bet. If that's called though, and I hit nothing on the turn or they raise, I'll let the hand go. I think the biggest problem people have with ace face is letting it go.

Haha, I tend to suck up my 'pride' and either check, or fold. I just can't bluff on a total miss, maybe if they were suited and I catch some, I'll go with it...

It depends on whats going on, i mean if no one bets on the flop, u can take a shot... Also, it depends on the cards, if ur trying to catch or absolutely nothing. If ppl called ur triple BB then you definitly have to assume that their hand is decent, unless your playing against total newbies :)... Now, you can definitly try to take it, i mean ull be testing the waters, and if by chance someone calls, youll probably have 2 overcards to catch a winner... and ull get a read on the ppl your playing with. Thats what you could do. Good luck :)

Well not knowing any real info I would do this.
If the flop is checked to me I would bet to see where I am, If I get a call its time to be
very very careful ..... like not put any more $$ in unless I hit and keep the pot small in case a big hand is hiding.
If someone bets in front of me then its an easy fold.
I would be wary of the early limper who flat called your preflop raise even after the BB called.

You should c-bet at least (and this is a very rough figure im just plucking from my head) about 60 - 70% of flops your the pre flop agressor in wether you hit something or not (barring playing against superLAGs, calling stations ect), just because youll take it down very often there and then. Remember, most flops miss most people.

How would you play pocket aces?

In games where your opponents aren't paying attention and are only playing their cards your approach is probably close to correct.

If your opponents are observant then you are going to have to bet some total whiffs. You might even have to check-raise bluff on some of them. GASP!

A check from you on the flop can't always mean weakness. If it does then I'm just going to bet at you every time you check.

On the other hand... raising with nothing could get you in trouble. If people see you do this all the time, they will intentionally check raise you, knowing your game play. Sometimes they will check raise you with nothing! knowing that this way they could make a more effective bluff. You have to vary your play in order for them not to know whats going to happen and play a good strategy against a fixed player. If you play with variation, you will succed your games. Good luck at the tables :).

Yeah, depending on the situation, you might sometimes raise, or check-raise. Then again, if you don't feel comfortable with a stone-cold bluff, do what feels best. Books and tips can only go so far in poker, and they are no match for experience.

Gotta agree with prior posts.....it depends. All poker is situational.
Under some circumstances (especially a "tight" table), I would consider a continuation bet. Depends on the flop and your feel for the table.
