I played this hand a few days ago and it has really been bugging me on wether it was a mistake or not . before you give your opinionb keep in mind many of the factors that im going to point out. We are playing at a bar that closes at 1 am they usually let us play till 1:20 or so most of the players are pretty drunk by now. I have a lot of history with these guys so i know just about where they are at not 100% but fairly accurate. It is about 12:50 and I have 78 of spades in the small blind two people limp a loose agressive player with a very wide range makes it five the blinds are .50/1.00 three people ca;ll to me and i call knowing that the two limpers feel pot commited everytime they put a dollar in the pot. The flop comes out 786 all hearts before i can do anything the player next to act goes all in for like 145.00. Now heres the thing this guy is a horrible player and is drunk as hell on top of it, it folds to me. I know that this guy can do the same move with just about any two cards he had been doing it for a while now and just taking down pots i actually put him on a flush draw or top pair top kicker and i know he wouldn't have done it if he flopped a flush or a straight so i am 99% sure that i have the best hand so i call and he flips over A4 w the A of hearts he turns a flush and the river doesnt help me. I know it was a gambling play but time factor made it very dificult for me to wait for a better spot regardless of all ot that what do u all think was it stupid to put 145.00 into 35 dollar pot? it has really been bugging me and i wanted some input.

Yes you made a mistake.... IMO 78spades your looking to get an 8 high straight... It all changes when you hit two pair because you have to take into account what others are holding. And it's a big trap to over value your hand.

If anyones holding pocket 9's or higher and shove that's prolly best case scenario but all they need to do is pair the board and your out. Draws and the board pairing is a lot of danger.

Typically you'd want to see a cheapish turn but since theres plenty of action its a quite ez fold especially if the other guy has called. You have 4 outs if someones already flushed it.

The best case would be on the flop being checked to you and you then throw money in to take the pot there. But since you didn't you'll have to fold or your going to lose a lot of money.

****simple solution*** Ez fold.

Even the drunks holding one heart have a huge chance to win the pot.

You had the best hand, you read your opponent right, but, because bar poker is rigged, you lost. Flush chasers have & will continue to put a lot of other people's kids through college, nice call.

Looks like you were a 56% to 43% favorite, so probably not a mistake.

I think calling the allin there with high possibility of flush draw on board is a mistake...It was easy to assume in that situation that the villian did not already hit a flush draw but was counting on hitting a flush draw and didnot want anyone to call the pot so that he can steal it...Funny thing about this particular play is i have seen many such plays at bubble out level by many good players...funny it resembles to drunken play lol....

First is that you had a very good hand! but your two pair was conditioned to a straight or a color as was the final result! I would think you do not really know your opponents also had very bad luck!

Well you should have folded never the less of the pot when he moved all in. I understand why you hesitated, you were thinking if I will fold it will come flush and I will regret it...

There are certain rules you need to consider:
1) strenght of your hand
2) outs - meaning chance to make your hand stronger
3) how oponents play - he can be drunk or nearly dead and if lucky he will win nevertheless
4) never put to pot more than its current value unless you got monster hand on your hand such as AA, KK, or similar or suited cards AhKh

Today I made similar mistake as you on final table - 2 oponents left - one was moving nearly with everything higher all in - so I called him with Qh6h and he had Ad7d : flop was 5c 6d Ah 2s Jd and I lost chance to get to heads-up and win better than 18,67 USD - but here is the difference - I paid for tournament only 1 dollar.

I believe we had a bit of bad luck that, after all, is also a component of the game.

If this were a poll, I would vote mistake. Even tho you figure he is on the draw, but has not flopped the flush, he got it in first, and you only have 4 outs, at best. Nowhere near where I would feel comfortable enough to call such an over-sized bet.

I learned an old poker saying....'Steal and be stolen from'. He got there first...let it go.

I have a question of my own - I was among top 300 people that were still playing one 1,35 MTT kickout. I got 9s10s I was small stack in game - everyone except chipleader and BB folded - I pushed all in. Big blind folded but that idiot pushed all in with Kd3c and on flop I got: 10h Jc Qs and than I was shocked that came A c and than 3d. Was my play okay or should or would be better if I folded it...

To me it is kind of hard to believe that someone would call all of 18 000 chips with K3 on his hand... That guy was from Serbia. Please let me know...

I've made similar plays myself, but I think it is a mistake to put in that much based on the cards. Not only can a drunk hit a flush in that spot, but if he has A-9 or A-5 which was quite possible he has the open-ender; or as mentioned a pair of 9's or 10's are still dangerous for your two pair in that spot.

I think its an ok call but really depends if you want to gamble in this situation. You're never really going to be dominating. Only hands you dominate are 86, 76, and any 1 pair with no flush draw. Its possible he can have an over pair but he wouldnt limp imo.

Fair enough if you had a read due to him being weak etc. But most of the time your going to lose this hand, the worst youll come up against is a flush draw [what he had] which has ok equity, but most times people make play with like a low straight in this pot to take the pot and get flush draws out the way. But you made the right move at the time got it in with the best of it, but I wouldn't ever call in this spot

Ya fold it, your hand is too vulnerable for that massive overbet. you need more in the pot to call that big of a bet.
