I've recently joined pokerstars after 4 years on PKR, and i want to try my hand at cash games again. Ive always struggled with cash, but always made money at SnG and Tourneys.

Now i do realise that cash is different (and harder), but the advice ive had recently has improved my game. I also used to play scared, because I was playing above my BR.

I now have proper BR discipline, going to start at 4NL (BR is $120).

The one thing i'd like an opinion on, is whether to play 6 ring or FR games...

6 Ring always seems to be quite loose, so if im multi tabling (only 4 tables) im thinking of full ring.

I realise it depends on my style, but was wanting opinions on the differences between the 2 games..

PS..Im still going to play SnG, just wanted to try cash again.

My advice would be to start at 2nl and see if you can beat that first.

Even if you are rolled for 5nl (which you aren't fully imo) it will be better to practice at a lower level until you have the basics sorted and you are winning.

6max vs FR depends how you like to play. FR is way a lot nittier so you will spend a long time sitting around waiting for hands, especially if only playing 4 tables. 6max is more fun imo but I am biased :)

I fully understand your 2NL idea, good BR management, but isnt 2NL almost like freeroll, full of loose maniacs who will chase anything

It's not full of them, but theres a lot, and you need to learn how to beat them. Careful with this line of thought because it leads to "I'll move up to where they respect my raises!" :)

You say that like its a bad thing, when your at 25nl you'll log on everyday with fingers crossed for tables full of players that make it look like a 2nl table!

True...i guess the trick is not to get dragged into it, and play my normal game, be tight and punish any weakness...

Not really. There are lots of bad players for sure but it's not like a free-roll by any means. Most people are playing there to try and build a BR for higher levels and they do take it seriously. Honestly, it wont be as easy as you think.

I started at 5nl on stars, cash game beginner like you, but I ended up losing most of my BR and having to move down to 2nl. Wish I had started there in the first place.

Yeah, 5nl at Stars is filled with nits. More so than any other level I have played. Making money there isn't "hard" per se because they play pretty predictably, but you'll make it more slowly and it does require a better understanding of the game than making money from the maniacs and calling stations at 2nl. I say get good at the easy things first, then try the harder things. Start at 2nl :)
