re: Poker & 6 Max Limit Hold Em
For 6 max limit I would suggest that you go to Deuces Cracked and sign up for a free trial subscription. They have some really good videos on starting out in 6 max limit. If you decide to go that route let me know and I'll get off of my lazy butt and look up some of the titles for you if you want since their search function takes a bit of getting used to.
I played a lot of limit when I first learned poker. It has its pluses and minuses. Generally you won't lose as much as fast when you are starting out as you would at no limit. The flip side of that is that you won't make as much when you play well and your edge will be a lot smaller.
We make our money in poker from our opponents mistakes (see, Sklansky's fundamental theorem of poker. http://www.thepokerbank.com/strategy...s/fundamental/
The bigger our opponent's mistakes, the more money we make. Since the size of the bets in limit is restricted, your opponent's mistakes will only be so big. Often the villain will have made a huge mistake preflop by calling but you can't punish him by betting as large as you think he will call for maximum value. By the end of the hand he will often have pot odds
so that calling your turn and river bets is either a small mistake or actually correct.
Post flop play is pretty simple in most instances you can easily calculate whether or not you should call due to pot odds
. Implied odds situations where it might be possible to play a speculative hand in the expectation of stacking an opponent when you hit don't exist. Even if you make your hand it is difficult or often impossible to extract enough value to make it profitable long term due to the restricted betting.
