I primarily play 9 handed hold em, but have been interested in playing 6 handed. Which do you guys prefer and why?

I like six handed... Mostly because I enjoy opening a greater range of hands... I don't like sitting around at 9 handed.... I find 6 handed more enjoyable personally

Yeah what J said. I always swore by 9handed (full ring) and finally the last month everyone says just play 6max and ya know what? I play much better at 6max. I have a stake going on BCP and over 7k hands, Ive played 1,500 at FR and lost a considerable amount. Wish I never touched it lol and since have gotten rid of it altogether.

I was a FR player until I was bored of waiting and waiting for cards and discover the true poker (6max). It's better than 9max because I can play a wider range of hands and it's more aggressive. The nasty part is that the swings are bigger, but that's ok if you have patience and discipline in your game. But everyone with their opinion ! some people win more at FR and like it more.

I can't handle playing much FR in cash games as I find it to boring and nitty..so I've always opted for 6max.

I also think playing 6max improves you game a LOT more than FR due to the many more marginal spots you get in.

Agree with ramdeebam you will get a lot of tougher decisions at 6 max making it harder at first but definitely beneficial if you can learn from them! I do like FR zoom though!

I prefer 6 handed ring games, and I prefer 9 handed for tourneys.
Here's my reasoning behind that.

In ring games you're strong hands have a better chance of holding, and you can play medium hands a little more often because no matter what position you're in there aren't that many players to act behind you. Also if you're on a draw and feeling like trying to draw out you have a slightly better chance that the card you need hasn't been folded already.

In tourneys the blinds obviously rise, so to have 9 players rather than 6 players give you a great advantage. No matter what type of player you are the blinds won't hit you as many times giving you better opportunities to pick up chips. I also enjoy 6 max MTTs too just as long as they're not turbos, and I start with at least 3K chips.

That's just how I feel about the matter.

No matter what It is still poker. Good players will make profit on both .
It is easier to multitable FR though.

I play 6max cos that's where the games are. Simple as that really.

When I open my lobby right now and filter for 6max 50NL there are 15 games running, when I choose FR there is 1. ONE!

One of the biggest factors to beating the games is making sure you're in the good ones.

And this.
Best players in the world play HU because of the lack of games:)

I like 9handed more than 6handed because most of tournaments have structure for 9players per table and I usually play tournaments. But I know that are players who like 6handed because there they can play more hands, there are more actions and maybe it is more profitable.
