Failing to understand that it's a new game when half the table clears out. Second to the last session, I ran pretty meh for six hours. Ran card dead, got coolered a couple of times. I must've looked pretty nitty until the table got down to 4-way, 3-way, and 2-way.
None of the others adjusted, playing the same ranges they played when the table was full. I robbed them blind, went for thin value, played hands that would be pure garbage in full ring: acey-deucy-off, K3-off. Played pocket sevens from the button like they were a pair of aces.
If you're only up against one or two other hands, what would be garbage against 7--8 other players become "premiums". Kickers don't figure as often, and marginal hands like Second Button, or even ace-highs, no pair, figure to hold up more frequently.
I would look at the high card strength of hands like 7,6 or 8,6 and so forth with being suited of secondary importance. Flopping a seven just might be enough to win if it's just you and two other players. Even 7,2-off isn't so bad under short handed play.
