I don't like turbos much at all. I feel that they give an advantage to luck over skill. What I'm saying is, regular blind structure tends to make the sng last a bit longer, so you're the blinds aren't going thru the roof which tends to get more coinflip races goin' on in the later stages (which come earlier). I feel that the reg. blind structure is an advantage for the more 'skilled' player.
If you're a patient, tight aggressive player, you may just have more chances for cashing over the longhaul in the 18-player sng's (top as opposed to top 3 cashing). I also prefer 9plyr. over 10plyr. just due to my having more experience on this table size. Some folks swear by the 6-handed games,... I personally prefer the 9plyr. ones (6-handed, the play needs to be a bit looser from the get go).
I find I do quite well in the sng's if I remain patient. There are numerous occassions where I'll be sitting near the back of the pack, only to bounce up into 1st or 2nd on one hand (or two). If you watch the table closely, you'll see the loose maniacs chipstacks growing rapidly at times,... igore it,. more often than not, they will be losing them just as rapidly in no time at all.
Patience with well timed aggression. Pick your spots and get your chips in on the big pots when you KNOW you've got the best hands. Watching while mucking your hands for the first stretch, not only will you not be risking a portion of your stack while going after insignificant blinds BUT it will also give you ample oppurtunity to get a decent read on the other players on your table and how to adjust your play to each of them.
