Hi Guys,

Just wondering what are the clear differences?

I'm currently smashing 2NL and hoping 5NL should be the same. But hoping to add my roll from 888 and perhaps jump straight to 10NL

Depending on the feedback I get.

If you play very well NL2 I dont see problem to play NL5 and NL10.The difference is not big.The only condition is to play tight and wait good cards!

I am in a similar situation as you are. I am crushing 5NL and had a few sessions at 10NL. It you know your game and are confident with it then all you need is the BR to support it and that was a problem for me. I play the LAG style at 5NL becouse my BR could support losing a few bucks until i start winning big.
I carried the same way at 10NL and it didnt go so well. Its not that i was playing bad or that 10NL is harder, its just that my BR now was getting hit by those few bucks i was losing in the beggining and i didnt feel confident making too much moves with so much at stake. To be clear i had about 20 BI for 10NL. If you didnt play 5NL before i advise you to go trough it couse its going to upgrade your level of thinking and if you are multitabling its going to be a litle bit harder than 2NL and you might want to reduce the number of tables you are playing at the beggining. Also the jump from 2NL to 10NL can be a litle bit scary.
I am now playing 5NL deep until i get my BR to about 30 or maybe 40 BI until i start playing 10NL again. GL

I really disagree with these statements as i find it that 2& 5 are not too different but at 10NL its much harder. Especially on stars.

People are more positionally aware and are better at putting you on a range.I cant really describe why but if you have played on stars (especially zoom), i think you will agree with this.

10NL Zoom differences compared to 5/2NL -

Negatives:

  • You will face more 3b from the blinds forcing you to defend wider and inc some 4b bluffs into your range
  • You will face some 4b bluffs
  • There will be much less settled pre-flop and more post flop play
  • You will face double barrelling more often, particularly on scare cards when OOP
  • You will face generally better player post flop, less mistakes.
  • You will face more aggression generally

However you do find that:

  • Villains still fold to much to steals
  • Villains fold to often on the turn
  • They are still pretty passive on bad cards for you
  • They do not exploit the button as much as is optimal
  • Spite calling, particular when draws get there, is still common
  • Checking to induce is more effective as players will bluff more IP with missed draws etc
