Hey..I'm a reg at either nl500 or nl1k.
Odd that that's the lowest stakes offered. Everywhere I've been there are $1/2 tbls.
Id sit and observe for 30 minutes (just fold anything but top 5%). Pay attention to everything..bet sizing, who's who, conversation (especially if about
hands...
tells you what level thinkers they are). Once you get the hang of live, pay attention to eyes, hand motions, betting motions, etc too. Retrack some of the hands opponent play from the beginning, especially in big pots n showdowns. "Ok he had kq..3bet preflop...flopped a straight draw...cbet..hit his draw..checked.."etc. Will be invaluable when you go against them imo.
If you get the $2/5 tables comparable to mine, its a huge jump from nl25. The fact that. Its the lowest offered could change everything tho..cause lowest I have is $1/2 and they are alllll fish. So even if you get SOME of those fish siince they have nowhere else to go...table could get very beatable.
Bring an ipod or smething to entertain...moves much slower than online, and you ain't multitabling...so you could be waitin awhile. I've noticed lots of fresh live players like yourself have super obvious tells they don't realize..waatchout for that lol.
If you can afford say 2 buyins (max of course) without really regretting it, give it a go!
