Playing live = less hands per blind level. Do you change your starting hand requirements?

I prefer to play TAG in the early stages but with such a decrease in hands played I'm worried that I might not see any primo hands before the blinds get high.

Any advice?

really depends on the blinds structure here. the thing i like about live is that you can read your opponents way better because you can actually look at them. imo, go into the tourney with a set strategy (TAG then LAG as blinds increases) but be flexible and be willing to change your strategy once you've had a feel of the table and maybe got a few good reads on people. if it's some people's first tourney they may play super tight and it would be worthwhile for you to loosen up against them for example

It really depends but as jyow said, some of these tourneys have lots of first timers and they usually play really tight. Take advantage if that's the case.

in most live tourneys, you have about an hour before blinds really become a factor. i would play TAG for the first hour, steal when i saw a chance, but basically i dont get involved in a lot of pots early.

i tend to play more cheap speculative hands in the early stages of live tourneys, because newbies fold missed hands to any resistance, and don't understand pot odds concepts and when it would be appropriate to call vs fold. it's one easy leak that can be exploited early.

Another thing to consider is that 75% of the players are n00bs (Ace rag = shove).

Thanks for the responses :) Keep'em coming!

BTW starting stacks will be 1500 or 2000, 30 minute blind increases, starting at 10/20.

Personally, early in live tournaments especially if stacks are somewhat deep I like to LAG it up all day. Exploiting position, continuation betting, 3Betting light and really just exploiting all the tight play you see early on in a tournament. (Shown by some of above answers) It is really important to try to build a big stack early as the once the blinds get high there really isn't much room to maneuver. You also get an image that can and you tend to get alot of action from people who just get frustrated with you basically owning them lol.

TAG/conservitive early--Loosen up a bit mid--more LAG latter (not super aggressive) and change up late inna tourny---Bet/raise 80% of the time and call 20% of the time. But never play consistantly the same strategy all the time--keep changing to make it more difficult to get a read on ya! (I think!)

I like live so much better then online, feels like a can really play my game and everyhitng. I play way looser on internet because i think itsd really different. People just get all their chips so easily in the middle online, much more different in a live game
