So last night I was playing at my local club 1/3 NLHE. Booked a win and brought my bankroll to over $7000. At my rate, I will be playing 2/5 shortly as I want to have about a $15k bankroll (yes I do have a job and work full time). Note:2/5 game is a $300 Min buy and un capped

However, I was chit chatting with my reg dealer and let me in on the 2/5 game. He said, don't play it. Stick with 1/3 as it is more profitable. Also, the 2/5 game is just stupid as people buy in from anywhere to $5k to $16k. Game is crazy and you really need deep pockets. 1/3 game is $200 buy in and $300 max

That being said, kind of made think about it. Should I even take a shot at 2/5? Buy in for the min buy and try to get it in good? Or just stick with 1/3? Not familiar with the uncapped games either.

Any cash game that does not have a maximum buyin enables a LAG player to steamroll you and it just takes 2 badbeats and you've lost 2x your buyin and will be on tilt.

Maximum buyins are key to bankroll management vs LAG players as when they get bigstacked this is certainly something that will make me want to leave a table.

Crazy games tend to increase both long-term profits and short-term variance.

You can't lose more than you bring to the table. No one forces you to buy in again after you are felted. And they will still be glad to seat you at 1/3 after you play 2/5.

So try the 2/5 game for yourself. Buy in a few times and play like a nit. Then you can answer this question.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Buy in for about about 300 blinds and see what I can do. Hate the fact that I have to play like a nit but that is the right strategy when the whole table is going crazy. I can imagine the variance going high and the swings. Hence have a 15k bankroll for 2/5
thanks for the tips

Eventually you will want to take shots at the 2/5 when the game is good.

You have a 7,000$ BR but you want to Buy-in to a game where player's consistently Buy-in for 5k to 16k lol. Come on man really?. And what a stupid game. Uncapped how terrible. Go to California 2/5 games are 200min-500max even the 5/10 is 500min-1500max.

I play in the states. In Texas to be exact. Largest stake is 2/5 no limit uncapped. There are no capped 2/5 games.

For some reason, the southern states loved 2/5 uncapped. I just got back from Vegas and it was nice to see some 2/5 capped games. I played quite a few and did well.

It's not unusual for casinos around the world to make the biggest game they offer uncapped.
For example, at Foxwoods, my home casino, $10/$25 is the largest game offered, and it is uncapped. Borgata is the same.
In some states and countries there are regulation prohibiting this.

Wow, I did not realize that this ^ ^^ was the case. I'm assuming that this doesn't happen on the Reserve I play at, but I only have knowledge of 1/2, 1/3, and 2/5. I'll have to ask next time I'm there.

When you guys say "capped" are you referring to the max buy-in amount allowed? Or are you saying that is the most money you can have in play?

Max buy in amount. If you're building up slowly and surely, Capped games is where it is at. Uncapped, there is no Max buy in.

Warning. "You went heads up with the mad russian?"
