Been taking cash more seriously recently and a situation which seems to come up quite often.

I am in early positon with something like AK or AQ suited or medium pocket pair. I raise 3x and get a call from late position. The flop comes down and i miss completely.

My default play would be to c-bet about half pot, and at this point the villain flat calls.

The turn is a brick.

Do i continue or shut down. I have played about 6k of hands (which is not a lot) and more often than not when i have continued to bet i have lost the pot to a bigger pair.

My early observation villains don't fold pocket pairs often enough to make it profitable to keep betting.

Any thoughts for a new cash game player would be appreciated.

Hey Steve, i might not be the best guy to give an advice, i have never played above 4/5nl except some short tilted journeys to 10nl in past but imho you dont want to have default action when it comes to c-betting, i have done that too almost the same way and i face a difficult decision on turn, to bet or to check and face a bet, i would lead with the idea that people might call a c-bet more liberally with wider range but would be reluctant to do that on turn so i fire again on turn and i see that im spewing money that way because if you get called on turn and what to do on river? same situation and doubt as on turn. I would say be more picky with c-bet, dont c-bet all the time but when you do, bet bigger about 2/3 or even 3/4 of the pot because oop you need to show strength and if you still get called or raised you have probably easier decision with that bigger bet that you would with half pot bet... again that is just what i changed to my game when i saw that this happening to me, it is not necessarily right... hope it might help...

As you know you can Cbet and make the villain fold if you know his table image, and if you miss the flop and want to make Cbet you can raise 2/3 of the pot this is going to say you actually hit the flop. And something more you can change your bets from time to time, you can check - raise some flop, you can only check the flop, just try to play more creative poker and you will make the villain fold of course if he is not absolute fish.

so you have a plan up until the turn and then your lost?

this question is so texture dependent you need to establish what turns and rivers you wanna barrel before you cbet

post examples with your thoughts and we will try and put you on the right path

your question is one of an overall gameplan
