I've been analysing my game in a bit more detail lately, and I have a scenario for 4 betting written below. It doesn't happen often, but given that every 4B is a fair chunk of my stack on the table, I feel like getting it right is a big deal.
So, should I be 4-betting when my equity against a range is greater than 50%? I have put together a hand below to (hopefully) explain what I'm thinking.
Hero (MP) - AKs
Tag Villain (CO) 3B range ~5% (JJ+, AJs+, KJs+, AQo+)
If hero opens at MP and Villain 3-bets, is it +EV to 4-bet in this spot? Hero equity PF is 56% against perceived range, although admittedly that is skewed to include more broadway cards than pairs so this is perhaps a bit misleading. And if we do 4B and villain flats, should our general line be c-bet every flop, and x/f turn if we miss?
If villain 5B shoves, and we assume that means QQ+, we fold unless the pot is more profitable than our new equity at 34.5%? I can't imagine many cases where we would get the odds to call unless villain was a short stack, in which case 4B shove or flatting the 3B might be better?
I am assuming a vacuum, because it's 10NL, so I would rule out any 5B shoves because I don't think they will affect profitability enough.
