I've got a bit of time off coming, and am thinking of going to the horseshoe in council bluffs, IA to play a bit of poker. I used to play 1-2NL in altoona, IA and tunica, MS. The game they spread in council bluffs is 1-3NL.

My question is: IS the blind structure going to dictate a different style of play? I'm usually very LAG when playing live, and it seems to work for me. Tilting nits is great fun! Also the max buy-in is 100bb, whereas in other games I've played, max buy-in is 150bb or even no max! (2-5NL game in tunica.)

Probably not. 1-2 games I've played are 150bb($300) and a 100bb game for 1-3 is $300. However opening raises might become even bigger than the normal oversized 1-2 raises. I would just play slightly tighter until stacks get deeper and implied odds become greater.

I'd fold the small blind a lot more in limped pots.

Couple of perspectives here ...

1. Be grateful you got games that are 1-2 or 1-3 that allow more than 50bb to buyin. No joke - The Commerce Casino 1-2 game has a max buyin of $40. It's a stupid game.

2. In Las Vegas, there is no different between the 1-2 and 1-3 game in terms of skill. You are looking at the SMALLEST game in the casino for poker either way.

3. Just adjust to opening sizes and 3bet sizing preflop. It's still pretty much the same game.

I laughed when I was there and saw that. It should generally be a max buy-in of 200$ for 1-2 and 300$ for 1-3....anything less than that is not enough....more is great, the highest max buy-in I have seen for 1-2 was at Firelake Grand in Oklahoma with a max of 500$.
