I have a $5,000 bankroll and am wondering if I should feel comfortable playing the 1/2 plo game at Deleware Park? It's just 1/2, no $5 bring-in. I'm thinking $5,000 may just be enough to make me feel comfortable, buying in for $250, would be 20 buy-ins. I feel I have an edge in the game but am not sure/do not have enough experience to know if $5,000 would be able to withstand the variance? I really appreciate it.

i play live 1/2 but the max buy in is 500 so everyone has a stack of 500bb and the game is actually 2/5 so i have 25 buy ins to play.

?

What does this mean?

Do you mean that you play 1/2 so the small blind is 1 and the big blind is 2, with a max buy in of 500 so everyone has 250bb. You also have 25 buy ins so your bankroll is 12.5k?

What I do not understand about your statement are the following contradictions:

i play live 1/2 but the max buy in is 500 so everyone has a stack of 500bb

If you are playing 1/2 with a 500 max buy in everyone should have 250bb

everyone has a stack of 500bb and the game is actually 2/5
so is the max buy in 2500 to be stacked 500bb deep?

or

if the game is actually 2/5 and not 1/2 then a buy in of 500 is actually 100bb...

or

Is there a forced double straddle???

the game is actually 2/5 so i have 25 buy ins to play.
If the max buy in is 500 are you playing with a 25 buyin bankroll

bb stands for big blinds. I dont know if maybe in translation that somehow got confused?

Sorry for not properly understanding you. Can you try to explain how you are playing again please?

A lot of small live omaha games will have $1/$2 blinds and a minimum bring-in/bet of $5. So, they're more like $2/$5 games (in practice) than the $2 big-blind would make it seem.

I suspect that's what's going on here. Omaha has a lot more variance in blind-structure than hold'em.

Edit: The reason for the $5 bring-in/minimum-bet (from what I have gathered) is that it makes mentally calculating pot size a lot easier/faster.

You will have a lot of variance at the 1/2 level and the rake is going to be high but 5,000 should be enough that you have time to move down etc when things go south. It's not going to be massively comfortable but it should be ok for short period of time, assuming and hoping you run good early. If you don't you would need to move down fairly quickly

For reference though, I've had 15k downswings at 1/2 PLO and have had a -7k session so bear that in mind

For 100 big blinds, you should have maybe 50 buyins. So 10k should be enough. I don't think it matters too much on how much your bankroll should be there but at higher games to move up on.

exactly.

sorry about mistyping, yeah it's 1/2 but everyone plays with 500$ so its 250deep and not 500bb.

You would be better off buying in for $100. Note, you should also quit any time you have more than 10% of your bankroll on the table, so in your case you would have to hit and run any time you doubled up which is sub optimal.

its live, its not like hes going to have tables to hop between...

Also playing for 100 is way worse cause its a completely different style of poker, you want to get accustom to full stack plo as quickly as possible
