So I'm having a bit of a dry spell... I lost $1600 playing 1/2 NL Holden in about 3 5 hour sessions... See I am just getting back into poker and I can't really remember losing this much in 3 sessions before...

Anyway, is this normal? Any of you who know that you are really good at Holden could you please share? Really need some advice to get me back and not feeling so bad...

Could bad luck alone cause this or is that unlikely?

Thanks a ton if you can help.

I really want to get good at this game... How long did it take you good players to get good and what kind of potential can you earn?

Also if you have had any loosing streaks or the lows that you can relate to it would be great if you could share..

1/2 blinds and you went down for $1,600 in less than 8 hours??
I can see it possible but i wouldn't say normal. I think You should evaluate your hand selection and play more position poker. What site was this on? Do you think its normal? Did u switch tables? were you tilting a bit?

$1600 was in actually about 20 hours (not 15 as I mentioned)playing live 1/2 NL...

What more can I do? I listened to audio books and read books for 2 days straight...

Its really hard for anyone to give advice or feedback without seeing some hand history or something. I personally don't like 1$/2$ stakes due to high volume of less skilled players who can be tough to read but to some people that's a plus and easy winnings. With that in mind we would really need more details to give any critiques or advice.

Post hands

It could be bad luck combined with bad play and remember cash games can have high variance.

If you post or share the key hands here then then many of us will help you in evaluating the hand and analyzing whether it was bad luck or bad play or both.
If there were any sub optimal plays made or missteps then a conscious effort will be made to point them out with reasoning.Members will also post suggestions on how to avoid the mistakes and how you could have played the hand differently.

Got ya... I'm really looking for mentality advice... See I put in maybe 120 hours over 3 months... 1st month I broke even, the second month I made $19 per hour and the first half of last month I was $97 per hour for 15 hours and then by the end of the month I was $15 per hour for he whole month...

Now I just mentioned my 20 hours this month and being down $1600... So it had been down hill since the 15th of last month and I'm not sure what's wrong other than being a little stressed from work...

I need to figure out how to snap out of this is what I'm really looking for... But a story from someone else out there who is good and has had a tough time like this would be encouraging... I know I'm not the only one who has had a losing streak before

This is live right?

Many reasons:

Maybe bad luck and/or bad plays.

Opponents- always the same and had read you like a book for now. They know your style well.

Collusion- Very important. I was once a victim of this. 2 or more of opponents might be in connivance. Not to mention also dealers. You have to be very observant and vigilant to opponents and dealers.

Hope these adds up. Good luck...

I think you may need to change your starting hand strength and perhaps your tactics as a whole. I understand that you may have read books for 2 days straight and listened to audio books, but perhaps you have tried to take on too much info at once. I could also suggest that you try playing at a lower level? It seems to me that you may have hit a bad run, (or kicked too many black cats), but take it slowly and don't try to win it all back at once otherwise, as my Grandmother used to say, you'll throw good money after bad. Gl to you and hope to hear that you are on the road to recovery soon........... :D :D :D

If playing online, my only suggestion is to to drop down a level, rebuild your BR and your confidence. If live, do the same if possible.

My advice would be to drop down in stakes until you get your grip back on the game. Play $2NL for a while and study the play at this level until you show a positive win rate you'll lose 1% of what you're currently losing until you find your feet again, surely that's got to be better than denting both your confidence and bankroll.

Losing 8 buy-ins in 20 hours at $1/$2 is possible and in the long run it is likely to happen but it's more likely that there are some things you need to work on. Is this live or on-line? If on-line you can go back and review your sessions. Do you play a lot of hands out of position? Do you cold call a lot with small pairs or suited connectors? Do you chase draws without the proper odds? Any one of these things are easy leaks to plug. It may be that you 're running cold and you were bound to lose no matter what, but probably not 8 buy-ins. A penny saved is a penny earned.
