So how much do you all make consistently on 1/2 NL… I was feeling really good for about 2 weeks and made $97, then my business partner went crazy and I started feeling stressed and about $75 hour… So where do you usually stand playing low stakes cash games?

Hi. I dont usually measure my hourly rate - I tend to measure my winning sessions and losing sessions, I keep a record on a weekly basis and believe you me it can make terrible reading, bringing home to me how much I spend on poker. I think that $97 per hour or even $75 per hour is good. Looking at the chart above I believe you are earning approx 3 times that shown so looks good to me................gl :D:D:D

You're running good. That winrate is definitely not sustainable.

See jilly for a more accurate win rate of a good winning player.

You will have a very hard time making more than $30/hour in the long run unless the players in your game are total droolers that make ZERO adjustments.

Playing Games and winning that game with this winning rate is amazing. You have a good mind and strategy for playing this type of games. You should play more and make more money.

Hi Jilly,

How long did it take you to get that good?

I've posted yearly reviews of my poker in the forum, not too hard to find.

Play, read, study and discuss, those are the foundations.

Live 1-2 is one of the softest and easiest games there is, straight up. Depends where you play, and against who. Up until recently I was averaging $45/hr playing 1-2, but have had some brutal sessions lately, knocking me down to about 36 an hour. Knowing your opponents is the #1 key

thats the great thing about my town, these locals are horrible and keep their game the same. There are a few drunks, and some rich who just play tight but cant adjust.

I've switched to live games recently since I heard they have bigger fish. Despite the slower hand rate.

Im sitting at $37/hr after 3 sessions. Not reliable yet. My plan for now is to alternate casinos every session so that opponents don't pick up on my habits. With ten casinos all 20mins away or less, i think it could work. So far the skill level is pretty awful.

Nobody has played based on opposing stack sizes. Theres been minimum two calling stations at every table. Lots of people play scared. Lots overvaluing suited connectors, ESPECIALLY out of position.

I haven't won any massive pots yet, but I've been run over by 4 outers 6 times in only 7 hours, yet somehow I'm still up. Even the best players at this level seem to be either WAY too tight preflop when up against calling stations or for some reason they often call preflop raises out of position with hands like 45s or 22. The biggest adjustment I've had to make is learning to play 4,5, and 6 handed flops after a preflop raise of $15-20 pretty much every time.

Open limping calling stations are so common that if you decide to go $20 on your button with AKs and there are 5 limpers behind you.... Expect 4, if not 5 callers. online poker is much different in this way. It can make for a long boring night if you're not hitting, but I imagine a wealth of chips to come my way if I am hitting. bluffing is almost completely out of the question, save for when I'm up against the only rock at the table.

Your win rate at $1/2 LIVE is going to be extremely dependent on the players. There are some games where I can make a killing. My win rate is so ridiculous you'd think I was making it up. But there are other games where I just can't get anything going... particularly in Boston. gambling isn't legal so I find myself playing against people who generally know what they're doing - and that means smaller win rate (I have a negative earning since I moved to Boston three months ago).

I wouldn't really look at win rate so much. If you are playing foundational strong 1/2 online $10/hr would be good. If you are live, just find tables where you can inflate pots, get people to stack off, and generally just don't know what they're doing. Then the winnings just come down to how often you get strong hands.

Making $65/hr at 1/2 NL

I've been playing diligently for over a decade, working and studying on my game, and recently decided to use an App called Poker Income to track my live results. After 3 weeks I have logged 44 hours over 10 sessions, cashed in 7 of those 10 and lost my buy-in in the other 3, and had a net profit of $2,894, for an hourly rate of $65.65. I have to be honest and say I did not track my results before this, but the last 10 sessions do not feel out of the ordinary. That said, I hear people talk about making $20/hr like thats a good rate, and I'm more than 3x that. I play at the Horseshoe in Cincinnati, and the action is loose and the pots are big. Pref-flop raises of $15-25 are not unusual, and pots of over $200 are not unusual. Am I killing it in a really lucrative game, or am I just experiencing really good variance?

Sample size is so small that it's still pretty meaningless.

How many hands per hour do you play on average at those tables? 40? That would make it a sample size of about 1750.
Look again when you've clocked in 10x this amount. Your results will be more accurate then.

I second this.

I had a period at 200NL live where I was averaging about $500 profit per session for about 10 sessions. In one session I made $1300 profit and in another session I made $1500 profit. Then I went on a downswing and suddenly started second guessing myself and losing confidence. It's easy to be results-oriented and feel like a pro when you're on an upswing or feel like giving up when you're on a downswing.

In live poker, to even have a rough idea of your win rate requires at least 200 hours of play and to have a fairly good idea of your win rate requires at least 2,000 hours of play. I know that sounds like a lot but honestly, you don't realise just how strong variance is until you experience both a huge upswing (winning a few thousand) and a huge downswing (losing a few thousand) and then piece it all together on a graph.

Yep, don't go on big spending trips after a big win, because at some point your going to have some big hits, whether it is a few big sessions or just many in a row.

Not yet, but I'm hoping to make poker my part-time job at some point in the future, maybe in 1-2 years. Currently, I'm just a 22 year old uni student who only plays poker about 20 hours per week. I'm also not properly bankrolled to be playing live poker, so whilst I do take shots at live $1/$3 from time to time and probably average a decent profit (with huge upswings and huge downswings), I prefer to play online where my win rate is lower but variance is significantly lower too and I see more hands per hour which means I improve faster too.

For me, I consider breaking even at the table + free food + free drinks = a successful session! hehe :D

Wishing you continued success!
