I'm a USA player.
I've registered on BetOnline, AmericasCardroom, and Brovada, ...have all thier client software downloaded.
I went ahead and downloaded PukerStars too...but I can't play cash tables there being a USA player.

I've been out of the online poker scene since 2007 when the rules changed the game for USA players. ((yah..I kept playing for a bit..:D..i'm hard headed)) ;)

WITH THAT SAID....

I am getting ready to try out a higher buy in online tournament, with a buyin of $250 or less.

Some of you guys are out there, have been out there, playing long enough to know which tournaments are which, and your advice would BE GREATLY APPRECIATED , for me to check out the games.

I've always played the tournaments with a large player count payout, but still having a great payout for making final table, or at top 20..at least doubling your investment. Top 40 or more finishers making the buyin back.

ANY opinions on tournaments, and why...would be greatly appreciated folks.

It's ok to assume I'm a fool.....
I am. :hahaha::ciao:

basically.....tournament suggestions, opinions on the why's and what'for's of them, ..that have a 60 position payout or better to get at least the buyin back....that have a great payoff for just hitting final table.

If there are no suggestion...that's ok too.

good luck on the tables
Robert

I Personally have played in a fair amount of $100 buy-in’s along with a number of $240, and to a lesser degree $520 buy-in’s and a single $1000 game buy-in.

In order for me to recoup my buy-in's with a fair amount of confidence, I always stuck with either 6 or 9 player sit & goes, as for the $1000 buy-in, I stuck with my strongest game, which was to play in a Heads-up match.

When playing in the 6 player sit & go, you need to be confident in your ability to at least out play or out last 4 other players in order to recoup your buy-in and make a profit.

In the 9 player sit & go, you have one additional spot to recoup your buy-in and make some profit.

Compared to playing in a 200 player [plus] tournament where there are so many more hurdles you need to get through, these 6 & 9 player sit & goes are really quite easy as far as I was concerned.

Good luck in whatever direction you chose to go.

I've been playing all of those for several weeks now after depositing just $50 on BOL to test the site out. I'm comfortable, SO FAR, with all those formats.
Considering my background in online that I posted, let me add that when I use to play online most all of my winnings came from the tournaments or headsup play, but I ALWAYS limited myself to a max buy-in on anything of no more than $100 in a tournament, or $200 headsup. I played the "ring games" alot too..but always at the micro levels.
I had 5 kids and a wife to maintain back then, so I never risked the entire bank roll that I put online to start playing with. Back then...every $1 bill meant a kid getting something a kid needed. So I limited myself to redepositing no more than $20 a month if I lost my bankroll. In 2 years...I lost it twice. Both times...less than $300 that I maintained on the site. (withdraw was A WHOLE LOT simpler back then).

Any whoo...
all those kids are walking around in the world now living their own lives...
so I'm going to give this thing another try online, now that I found out it's possible for US players to do it again. And Ive gotten comfortable enough again in online play to to pop down $300 and lose it if I lose it.....after playing the sites..spending a couple months making player notes, and watching the AI on the sites.
Don't seem like nothings changed much in 11 years EXCEPT...those sit'n'go payoffs going to 2,3,4 players. When I first played a few....I thought...wow, a poker gawd gift. lol.

anywhooo...

Now I'm trying to determine which SITE, and which TOURNAMENT...to jump into head first and try to "git'r doneeeee". I'm not worried a bit about the funds.
It's all these site glitches, game freezes, "good luck buddy...PROGRAMS DOWN"..things that seem to be fairly common on BOL and ACR.
I'm just not liking Bovada a bit yet. I don't like the format...with not knowing who I'm playing, don't like the lobby, ..few other things..that I just don't care for.

So I'm focusing on ACR and BOL....
cruising up and down the lobby...
looking at the running tournaments, the finished tournaments, ...trying to get a feel for what payout positions are.....and return on investment.

I'm fairly decent at finishing top 100.
I'm a bit avg...at finishing top 60.
I'm a bit ok..at getting top 40.

If I'm in the right frame of mind...and the stars all line up...I'm top 20 any day.
I've made 3 final tables in the last 3 weeks...300-600 field tournaments.
Best finish..4th.....and all of them have been $11 or less in buy-ins.
I was just getting my "feel" and "qualm" back on playing online.

I'm not going to jump headfirst into that larger buy-in on a day the stars aren't aligning for me. lol
The days they don't..I just go to the cheap seats and have FUN,FUN,FUN...not giving a hoot if I win or not...I'm just there get loose, and if I win..cool beans. If I lose, I hope the player needed the funds. No prob.

Thanks for the input NBB.
It really is appreciated.

I'll keep railing the upper buy'ins and checking out the payout positions on the "completed games"...searching for a "regular scheduled" tournament that's a fit for what I'm wanting.

Which is basically...test my nerve on the higher buy-ins and make sure I don't go off freaking near the bubble. I NEED..to make sure that at the next level..I'll be as cool as cucumber like at the lower levels. Not worrying about money or position, just playing as near perfect a game as I can.
And a 60 place payout or better...would help me maintain that qualm. Being as I've only been playing again for about a month now.

good luck at the tables
Robert
