over the last 48 hrs i have profited by 160 dollars playing at pokerstars, including the second place at the cardchat tourney. However i have noticed that i play bad strategy even though i know that i should not. The main problems:-

1) I do take it personally when i lose chips to a player who i know is a
calling station but keeps winning..result..he gets all the rest of my chips as i become a calling station against him myself

2) I just know that this guy has the nut flush on the river . beating either my two pair or prile on the flop...but i still go all in to see him

3) I know I'm being outplayed by at least one player on the table...but pride stops me from hitting the leave the table button...result..he wins all my chips.

4) And this is the worst play of all in poker ever..i have just lost a hard earned profit in a game...so i go up the the stake ladder instead of down..i lose again so i go up again instead of down....end result...deposit lost...wife starts telling me off for swearing at the computer...i vow never to play online poker again as it is fixed(deep down i know its not but hey its way deep at this point).

the problem here is the mindset...you can see all the mistakes but you ignore everything you read and learn at the time...how do you fix this problem folks?.....is this the real difference between a pro player or a full time online poker grinder, and the likes of myself?...information can only help if you act on it.....

If you are thinking of replying to this...just stop and think real hard to see if this might be you yourself....It might also be a male thing...the female mind is something else altogether and this might not apply....and if someone really does have the answer...ill get them publishing rights and we can make a fortune with the book:cool:

Sounds like you've got a good read on yourself. Talk all you wan't about starting hands and table position, but those things don't mean shit with discipline and self control. While it's important to take note of your opponents, it's even more important to know yourself.

Mort: Doctor doctor, Can you help me? It hurts when I do dis.
Doctor: Don't do dat.

Gotta have that willpower, Jocks!
I myself am terrible with stuff like this, so my best option is usually to go on my inevitable rampage AWAY from the computer and the BR-eating tables.
I turn the computer right off, or get the hell out of the house so my gambling side doesn't take over and try and win back what I've lost. I'm getting better with discipline in that I can play after I've lost a few tournies, but my play still deteriorates slightly. I think this must be my weakest part of my game. Hope we can both learn to get a hold of ourselves and learn to detach our emotions from the game...

If you lose a hand because you know you played it badly, that's usually a good cue to call it a night, and take a day or two off. You'll come back playing a LOT better.

And I just thought of a good tip. If you're playing a limit hold'em or stud game, don't take the whole of your bankroll to the table. Take 40 big bets or something of that order. I find it makes me play better, and gets me to call it a night if I'm being outplayed.

I just done it again!

I have cashed out 200 dollars from the weekend(second in the cardschat stars game and also a good first placing on the 45 player 6 dollar stars sng)....i just lost me 40 dollars in two 25/50 cant nl ring tables and decided to take my last 35 dollars....UP!...

lucky for me i managed to make 91 dollars by playing like a maniac..and i have just removed my lucky ass from that table...

Right...im gonna take a deep breath....go to the 10/20 cent games with 10 dollars (40 big bets)..and play like a tight person who has just woke up on tight day....results to follow

And i say again, that last profit i made was pure luck using bad tactics.

This speaks to me alright.

I know I have a bad habit, when I`m playing tired, of putting the opponent on a hand that beats me but calling anyway because "I might have read it wrong".

Most of the time, my instinct was right and I`ve blown chips unnecessarily because I didn`t trust my own judgement. When I catch myself betting against myself like this, I know it`s time to go to bed.

Are we related? This sounds familiar, especially the swearing part.:p After reading this post, I realized I do a LOT of the things you mentioned. Thanks for opening my eyes as to what could be keeping my game from progressing. Let me know of any other tips you hear on how to turn the bad habits around.

I really think this is going to be and/or is a common problem. This is something that I used to encounter quite a bit until I came to realize that bad beats are a part of poker. Some people can say it and THINK they believe it..but when it happens to them, they go off the deep end. I've been there and done that...all I can say is that I'm glad I finally really understand.

The other real secret is to just know when to call it a night. If you think, I HAVE to get this money back..time to call it a night!!

I turn chat off now, cause at times when someone chases for incorrect odds or chases just because... better yet calls cause the board shows a shit load of over cards and they hold pocket 44's-66's and will call just cause... I am learning to leave chat off so I won't go off in chat... cause beats and someone just calling for sake of it.. this way I won't go off on them.. just shut the poker client down and call it a day for that moment

I never have the Chat on. Even if it is not me chatting, I find myself transfixed when people start having a go at each othe rand then I lose concentration.

I like to blame only myself should anything go wrong. IMO we all like to blame something or someone when it hits the fan.

Think Bombjack summed it up perfectly in another thread. "Learning to roll with it" or words to that effect.
