My fav ever poker site sadly closed at 12 pm ET and I spent the last hour with other regulars counting down the minutes and the hands until that fateful hour when we got the message "table closed"
I started playing on this site (World Poker Exchange) pretty soon after it opened in 2006 and have played there ever since.
It is only a small site and has been allowed to gradually fade and die through inept management and stupidity, over the last few years it has got quieter and quieter, even Black Friday didnt give it the boost we had hoped for.
I loved playing on there, these days if there was 6 tables open it was a busy time, but I knew all the players, many had been on since the beginning and they are the nicest group of players I have ever met (apart from on CC of course :)
I have got email addresses of my special friends from there with the promise to meet on another site but it will never be the same sadly.
It has only been closed 2 hours and I miss it like mad already, in the final few hands I wasnt the only player to admit to shedding a few tears, I never thought I could get this emotional over a poker site closing, but I have.
There are a couple of regulars I have played against for years and know well and I didnt get their emails cos they wernt on there in the last week and the thought I will never talk to them again is just devastating:mad:
Poker will never be the same .My only wish is that sometime in the future it will open again, but of course it will never ever be the same even if it did  If I was rich I would buy it myself and reopen it tomorrow :) but I'm not so I cant
I know I am just a sentimental old fool but it really does make me sad

I thought your worst hour of poker was because you went on tilt and lost a good bankroll.

Sounds like graduating from high school, the feelings you are feeling. Life changes, which bites.

I am sad and angry, as you say things change and yes it is not as bad as my New Years Eve tilt, I will get over it, just wrote the post cos I am amazed a poker site closing when I have accounts in over 30, could affect me.
I am sad because the site closed and angry because it was all down to incompetance and mis-management. I am also annoyed because all it would have taken to turn its fortunes around was to speed up their pay outs and have a couple of decent promotions, I told them this many times but nothing happened.
A couple of years ago it was doing fine and then it started being slow paying out and this got worse and worse and of course people wont deposit on a site if they cant be sure of getting their money back when they want it.
It is a branch of the World Sports Exchange a Sportsbook which is apparently, from what I read, doing the same thing.
I seem to be completely the opposite of most players, I like small sites where I can get to know people. I play on sites like poker stars but I cant say I "like" the site whereas I love WPE, it just suited me.
I admit it was a stupid title for a post so soon after my New Years Eve tilt. WPE was the site I always went back to when I had a bad run elsewhere and I will get over it but I just miss it  But I'll be back :) just not sure where I'll play yet

That's what's so annoying, it wasnt the DOJ that caused WPE to fold, it was inept management, taking over 6 months to make a pay out is a joke and there were no new promotions in over a year, it died through lack of care, not because it was a bad site.
The Software was great.
The games were great.
The players were great but the management were rubbish.
I am actually playing a few hands on a new site but not enjoying it at all cos none of my friends are there

Sorry to hear about that Col.
I've never played on a site where I've gotten to know any of the players personally (know how they play & sometimes might have an idea of what they're like... but don't really know for sure).

WPE... I've never heard of it. Did it have it's own software?

That's too bad you won't be able to get ahold of some of them now.:(

We might share the same name Col, but we're definitely alot different - - I'm pretty much a hater on the tables  , lol. I hate 'em all.

The thing is Poker Orifice I guess I am different to most poker players, I do make friends with people I play, doesnt mean I dont want to take their money but I knew most people on WSEX and they were friends. I am a buddhist so hating someone just cos they win a poker hand of me is not going to happen.
It did have its own software and I loved it, just suited me.
I did get ther email addresses of most of my friends from there apart from, sadly, a girl from the US who I have seen on the tables for years, who is very ill and we had some good talks when I was ill and encouraged each other, unfortunately I didnt see her before the site closed so I cant get in touch with her. I emailed the site after it closed asking them to pass my email onto her and was told they couldnt do it, why not I'll never know but the thought I cant talk to her any more is sad

what a shame- losing the friends more than anything- jetset(i loved that site) did that to me too,
i prefer smaller sites too for that reason (knowing ppl), sad they are a dying breed
now i only want to stick to stars for the safety of large site- that and i finally got a roll;)
id email support once more to try and find that girl
am glad you came back after newyears!

Exactly what we need. Someone who doesn't even read the OP in a topic.

I was joking about the 'hating' part (sort of, lol.... I don't 'hate on people' cuz of losing a hand to them on poker tables,.. I just feel a bit jaded when it comes to alot of the personality types on many poker tables).
I actually avoid playing cash tables online because I honestly feel bad about takin' moniezz from some of the players on the tables whereas with tournament play it just feels different.

I definitely don't like playing poker with friends on the tables (although I do enjoy some micro tourney play with some friends from forums (CC), where there's been a bunch of history (metagame stuff)).

Hope you're able to get in touch with some of the ones you've lost contact with.

R.I.P World Poker Exchange

Never played a hand there, but definitely understand the feeling when a Site/Player Pool has a long history and dwindles into nothingness before your eyes.

So many sites have shifted from network to network and seem to slowly close one by one.

What stakes were you playing? Because if you won that at 3/6 thats pretty impressive. at 100/200 it's not quite so :p
