Which is the winning hand?

This hand is from a Razz game. Which one do you think won and why? Test your knowledge of Razz. And guess which hand I had.

Not sure what a Razz game is. Does it go by general poker rules?

Razz is dealt out like 7 card stud. The lowest hand wins. So A2345 is the best hand you can win with. Flushes, pairs, boats and quads don't count in this game.

23457 beats A3467. It's the lowest card from top to bottom. They have the same high card so the winner is determined by comparing the next highest card. In this case, 5 is lower than 6 so it wins even though .A3467 contains the lowest low card. It could be worse. 97654 beats 9832A

I picked A3467, I don't have much experience with razz but I assume that these two hands are similar in strengh with the Ace being lower than the 2 and the 6 is higher than the 5 but with the Ace in the other hand, does this not mean its the winning hand?
If I'm wrong, I'll learn something new here.

75432 won, but I'm guessing you had 7643A. A common mistake people make is counting their low hand up from the lowest card. You should count back from the "lowest" high card, then down from there (if that makes any sense at all ).

23457 is the best hand here, my guess is you had the A3467 hand

Read the numbers backwards

75432 is smaller than 76431.

That is the easiest way to read them so they make any sense to you. They always list it the other way but read right to left. 75432 is smaller and therefore should win the hand.

Four Dogs was 1st post with correct answer to best hand question. Since you never make mistakes, other of course than playing in traffic, I will assume you had best hand.

Not knowing too much about Razz I answer answer 1. Thanks for the explanations, thats my something new learnt for the day!

Think there should be more of these style posts - just a little more knowledge into a game that not too many people know of!

I, of course, had the losing hand. A3467. It was the one that busted me out of the tourney. I figured he didn't have an A since I had two of them as my hole cards. I had to look twice at the hands to realize I lost. But I figured this would be a good little tidbit for those who are interested in Razz. I am mixing my playing up with this game. I am really getting to like it.

Need More Practice

I thought A3467 won. I like Razz as i like all the other poker games but i don't play it enough to know that kind of hand comparison. It just goes to show that i need to practice @ that game more cause in a situation where your tournament life is on the line i would've lost that hand.

And neither do straights.

Which is a big difference between Razz and 2-7 lowball games where all hands are valid and Aces are always high cards. Hence the best hand in that game is non-flush 75432.

Razz is new territory for a lot of players, and a great money-making opportunity for those who want to become good at it. I'm not there yet but working on it and I've been playing Razz pretty regularly lately... so far (knock on wood) I've only had one losing session.

The only Razz reference I've found in print is a section of the book "Sklansky On Poker," which is worth a read. On the surface it's a simplistic game but it has some interesting nuances... and lots of players who don't seem to know their way around it, at least at the lower limits.

You work backwards. An 86 beats an 87, etc.
