At first i have to say that my english is not the best because i´m from germany and the only time i speak or write is in the poker rooms, so please excuse me if i have some mistakes.

I cannot understand players which get very angry, if you call them and than they lose with AA or AK or KK or something like this. They abuse the other players. Why they do that? Poker is only a game, with a lot of luck and a little bit less strategy.
Sure, sometimes i have the same problem, that i lose with monster hands, but never i would abuse other players because they hit the community cards better than me. Doesnt matter!

so i hope that you will never meet players like this and wish you good luck in your play!

I always see players on poker stars going at each other and it makes me laugh. One of the only times I bother chatting is when the table tool who's been calling everyone donk's and crap players takes a beating, just a quick LOL usually does enough to see them carry on the abuse even though their out :D

I think that people get mad due to all the poker motifs....people think that since they are playing AA or high pocket pairs that they will always win because thats what happens on TV or statistaccally they are better...all in all they don't realize that poker is a gamble that can be won and profitable if played smartly but it also is a game of chance and 7 2 os can beat AA if the flop comes 7 2 2 understand?!?

I had an even stranger situation night before last. Guy went allin on the flop with middle pair. I called with top pair and ace kicker. My hand held up and he was busted out of the tourney.

From the rail, he was calling me "gay" for the next five minutes. WTF ? He went in with the worst hand and lost. Couldn`t understand why he had a problem with me because he made a stupid move. How could that be my fault ?

I just ignored him until he got bored and left.

I agree. I just wrote an article on my blog that covers the same thing:

Yeah it unfortunate that this happens.

Either they don't know better - excellent find where they play and take more of their money

OR

They dont know value of their hands or any basic poker theory - excellent find where they play and take more of their money.

Blind luck can not win out to solid poker theory in the long run.

Its unfortunate because some new players are offended by it and never return.

It`s just basic human emotions. Some people can control it, some can`t. My first wife used to get screaming mad about seemingly unimportant things, and eventually we divorced over it. I came to the realization that she couldn`t control herself, I would imagine that the world is full of people like that. There is just nothing you can do about it, it is probably genetic.

I'm puzzled too

I agree. I'm really puzzled when people go on name calling jags after losing a hand, thinking the opposition should have lost should have done this or that. I could be wrong but I attribute it to weak character (at least in some cases). The examples that best fit that description is the guy you bust and he says "you're g** your mothers a w****" and sits in the losers lounge for 20 minutes calling names. I don't think some of these people even realize what fools they are making of themselves.

I like everyone who has played for any time at all has had hands they REALLY don't like - it NEVER occurs to me to start name calling because of it. The anonymity of the internet gives permission to people who would never have the nerve to conduct themselves in that manner in person.

I think it's because their shoes are too tight, and their panties are all bunched up. LOL. Really, we can't know, nor hardly pretend to know why these folks exist, or what their motives are.;)

Sometimes I wonder if it's because they're about 14 years old and have stolen mommy or daddy's credit card to play poker.

I usually play the micro tables or freerolls, so when someone goes off and calls someone a donk and starts freaking out (regardless of what they lost with) I just thank them for gracing us with their presence at the micro tables and tell them that I didn't see the "No Donks" sign when I came in.

Another theory I have is that ppl might rely too heavily on the stats. So, if they get a monster hand and then lose they freak out simply because their stats "promised" them they'd win. They forget that a huge element of poker involves reading tells, taking risks and actually PLAYING the cards and players.

This exact same happened to me the other day, except he drew two pair on the river and I yelled at him. I try to be polite about it by mixing in insults and compliments, so I say something like "Nice hand, moron."

I usually resort to sarcasm these days. Chances are they won't get the sarcasm and take it for a compliment.

Just 30 minutes ago, someone called my preflop 3-bet with 89o out of position. I held Kings, the flop came two eights with two hearts. He felted me after a checkraise, and I told him "well played, nice hand". Maybe he believed it.

I am one of those people...and you must be one of the donks (most European players are). First off, I usually show down a bunch of hands that I have raised preflop before this chit happens to me...and I always have the best hand. Then, when I raise again and some moron decides he wants to call me with 9-4 off and flops a pair and rivers 2 pair or a set after I have been betting pot the whole way with my Aces, Kings, etc it pisses me off! How can you not tell you are beat? You can, you just decide to call, call, call, hoping the computer will reward your stupidity (which it usually does). If I see someone playing solid poker I am not going to chase a 2 outer on him...if it is someone that raises every hand and shows rags all the time, maybe (but probably not even). So, next time you are called a donk, understand that you are!

It's very easy to over-complicate these things by bringing in poker theory etc. but actually it's much simpler than that. Essentially these are the immature people that we meet all around us in real life. Nothing is ever their fault, and this time they can't blame the government or the local council housing department, so therefore it must be your fault that their monster hand lost ;)

This really goes to something I heard Daniel Negreanu say. I''ll paraphrase what he said "[It's when people say I had this and he had that and he called me]! There are a million reasons people call your bet table position, stack size, your play etc etc. Those who usually cry this way are speaking results only - this is the way amateurs view a poker game. It is not just your pockets that determine the game"].

I thought this an astute comment from a person I've seen read the opposition's hand with amazing accuracy. One way to look at it is that sometimes when a persons does something you do not understand, this could as easily speak you your lower level of knowledge. Example: When I started playing before I even knew the concept of position - I remember thinking this game is rigged when the UTG player almost always busted my middle pair bet late with a big pair. You'd think a player would have more self respect, not to mention the ability to see who stupid they really look, sitting in the losers lounge for 20 minutes whining and namecalling.

Does anyone else notice that the namecallers and "expert" commentators are usually shortstacked and/or don't make it past the 1st break. hmmm.

Look to yourself and how you play the game. It is just too easy (and I would say too weak) to say I lost because this d*** did this or that.

notice how some can't resist name calling even in a discussion of the subject

I think there are several Europeans here that would disagree.

Why? Either you're giving them implied odds (if you pay him off after he flopped 2-pair or trips) or else you want him to call. I repeat, if you are ahead and not giving them odds (betting pot definitely takes away odds if it's an overpair vs. a single pair), you want them to call. You are taking the extra money the majority of the time. You ought to be questioning who the real donk is if you don't understand the concept of the long run in poker.

How can you not tell you are beat? You can, you just decide to call, call, call, hoping the computer will reward your stupidity (which it usually does).
The computer doesn't reward anything unpredictably. You know exactly how often the computer will reward each play. Chasing with a pair to an overpair that has you beat will not get paid off by "the computer" enough to make it profitable. If you'll pay them off, calling with 95o sometimes can be profitable.

If I see someone playing solid poker I am not going to chase a 2 outer on him...if it is someone that raises every hand and shows rags all the time, maybe (but probably not even). So, next time you are called a donk, understand that you are!

Why should it matter who your opponent is and if they're playing solid poker. Hell if I played against you I'd call with my rags all day long when you raised hard PF. Then I could fold the flop if I miss and let you continue to hang yourself trying to make me fold if I flop a hand I believe is the best hand.

Moral of the story: you want a call if you're ahead and haven't given your opponent odds. If you don't understand this look at the concept of pot equity and what giving odds really means. Also, read this: https://www.cardschat.com/f49/stop-complaining-about-poor-play-your-opponents-95121/

I know what you mean. You are thinking people like for example Tenbob (Irish), Irexes (English), Nicoiko (French). Terrible donks, those Europeans. ;)
