Why do places only offer 6-max

It seems like most websites only offer 6-max games anymore, no full ring. The only sites that I know have full ring are pokerstars and 888poker, and even then almost nobody plays the 888 full ring games above the penny stakes. partypoker has 8-max but it’s the same problem: barely anybody plays.

I get you see more action, but is that really enough of a market shift on its own to stop most websites from offering full ring at all?

Interestingly, poker tournaments all seem to keep the full ring going, even online. I’d understand full ring live games because it means fewer tables, but what’s your guess as to why full ring tournaments still seem to be dominant online, while 6-max cash games seem to be taking over?

Its basically player preferences, that dictate, which games are offered. As you say, less and less people play full ring cash games, and at a certain point the poker site might decide, its better to simply not offer them. ACR still have full ring cash games, but last time I checked, there was very little action.

As for tournaments most sites do offer some in the 6-max format, but they are not exceptionally popular, so for whatever reason tournament players have different preferences than cash game players. 888 Poker have a decent amount of 8-max tournaments, and maybe that is actually a good compromise.

Faster action = more action = more rake

6max I like much more than 9 people at the table
easier to concentrate on the game when there are no crowds

6 max my favorite type of tournament. I am playing on poker stars and you right they have all types like from heads up to 9 max. But if there are 2 same tournaments 6 and 9 max I will choose the first one. For me it is more comfortable to play that.

Personally I only play 6-max cash games because I don't want to have to wait for the nuts all the time. I like to play a mix of hands in a mix of situations. Full ring cash games or tournaments seem to rely much more on luck and variance. I'd only play 6-max tournaments if they were available, but they almost all seem to be full ring.

I think most players like 6 max because you get faster action. You don't have to play as tight 6 max so you play more hands.

In 6max the opening range is wider and more action. In full range have to wait for premium hands. to win. The psychology is so much different. Full table is like casino Play

That’s why I like them though! I want online to simulate playing in a casino sometimes - full ring, nice and slow.

some poker sites offer 6-max just because they don't have enough traffic to fill 9 players.

I see a lot of players at 6 max for texas holdem and people playing 9 max in omaha. It's backwards thinking by noobs.

A lot more Rake! A LOT!!!

And a lot of players like the quicker action and ability to get more creative with more hands.
