Being new to this site its probably been discussed before. Who are these players who act like the only way to play holdem is a set of precepts that only they know. You beat them with a gamble and away they go cussing you calling you nooby or fish or ddonk whatever theirb tiny minds can come up with. Doesn't the great Texas Dolly play 10,4 all the time? In the last fulltiltpoker freeroll for our members I was about 1K ahead and gambled with10,2. Flopped X,2,2 giving me a set took this fools money and away he went F$%$ing noob etc. 2 hands later he's out. Should we all play the same way? Aren't gambles and risks an important part of the game. Glad to be a part of this. Regards to All Jimmysmurf

too much tv

You're only seeing the highlites on tv. The guys only play those hands in certain situations. They're thinking at a "poker level" that you and I have not come close to.
The better players at this site (and me) are not going to spaz out at you. They want you playing at their tables. They're going to take your money if you continue to play that way.
I doubt you believe me but when you get sick of losing your money, this site is a great place to learn to play better. "These guys" will be more than willing to help you out, as they have with me.

I don't think it was me, but you can pretend it was and read this:

Stick's Poker Blog: ...And I'm a Name-Caller-Aholic

It might make you feel better.

Um, Doyle doesn't play 10-2 "all the time". He played them in head to head situations not full tables with 9 or 10 players. There is a huge difference. It's ok to play other "non-standard" hands, but you should have a reason for playing them, not I'll play this crap and hope to get lucky. Of course if they had a good hand and didn't raise then it's their own fault, however if there was a raise and you called please keep in mind that although you will occasionally hit you will lose much more often. You also will find youself with a piece of the flop but being dominated without knowing it. For instance suppose you play your 10-2 and the board comes 10-7-4, are you ahead or behind if someone bets at you?

Anyway, welcome to the forum. Relax, take off your shoes, fix yourself a drink and have fun.

I taught myself to play online. So I got my fair share of being yelled at. Made me learn things tho, but I don't like it. Have never done it but my monitor sure gets alot of verbal abuse!!

so basically going with a "gut instinct" is wrong because a bunch of people say it's wrong? i'm sorry, and i don't mean to offend anyone, but if i feel good enough about a hand to limp in with a 7-2 off, or call a raise on the same hand (or any hand) if i'm in the blinds, thats noones buisness but my own and they should be a little more grown up about it when they get beat by a hand like that. and if i lose on that hand, then it's on to the next one. lets try and remember that it's called gambling for a reason. what about when someone bluffs a pot, and takes it down. is that a bad play too, just because they've successfully misrepresented the cards they hold as being the best for that hand. i don't think so, and i doubt very much that anyone will ever convince me otherwise. ultimately, doesn't it all come down to a players preferences. and no i'm not exactly new to poker and have won my fair share of SNG's and tourneys, as well as live games.
i'm just venting because it shouldn't matter what one plays. the real winner of a hand is not discovered until the river card comes down,it's just a matter of whether a person is willing to pay that price to see it. just my opinion.
cheers and gl at the tables
