Does anybody play this on pokerstars ?

I played it last month for the first time and came 861st.

This month I am comfortably in the top 300 !!

WOW ! I must be really good hey ?

Nah..... Just register late... fold every hand... wait til you make the last 25% then start shoving chips in late position and hope you catch a decent hand real soon...

The only skill in this league is resisting temptation to play premier hands early in the tournament...

I was really chuffed to pass the poker school test <second attempt LOL> to join this league but find now that it's not really a test of poker skill but more a test of discipline which I guess Poker is but this feels like a cheat... I logged in the other day then went shopping, came home 45 mins later, hit some decent hands doubled up a few times and finished in a good position at the end...

Hats off to those who finish in the premier places mind you cos I still believe you need to be a decent player to get that high up... but I'm top 300 and I'm a newbie and I'm a bigger rock than that wrestler guy, what's his name ? Ummm... Oh yeah... The Rock !

I Don't see those Pro's on TV with shopping bags under the table...

Thoughts please :)

This tournament is hard.. and have a good prize when you are in the of leader.. not all the freeroll you must have to play but you just play where you are available to commit time .. because if you play all and some tournaments you will fail amd it has a big effect in your leaderboard stats..

I have stopped playing it now... If you can finish top 10 yes the prize money is good but only if you have 20 VPPs... Otherwise you can only win 10% of the prize

Last month the league winner won $150 instead of $1500 as he did not have 20 VPPs <Still nice but 10 times more is better>

You see a lot of people in this tourney just sitting out the whole tourney... It is possible to pass the point where you score negative points without playing the tournament at all. That's why i've given up playing... If you want to win you have to play in a way that is not enjoyable or be manipulative.

It's a nice idea to have a league but playing it is a bit tedious now.. And you do need to play it regular to maintain your position... I never played for 2 days and went from Top 300 to outside Top 500... Yes I agree if you play and fail you lose big points... but not playing at all means you just slip slip slip slowly away :)

Actually... It's starting now so I may just log in and sit out the tourney ! see if my theory is correct !

I have made the Big Bang $5000 tournament once, but went bust like right away. I may attempt going into the Premier Skill League for August by getting in the top 500 in the Open Skill League in July. Btw, I am pretty sure I have to reach 20 FPPs this month first. Good luck with your endeavors!

Tough tourney because of many participants.

You have to have much time to play many games to be on the leaderboard.

If you want to play that league, than you have to eat, breath poker, no sleep for more than 4 hours for an entire month, than you can get a nice place : may be top 20.
I have played that league before and always my target was place 500, so may be 2 or 3 tournaments every day, than i was able to get promoted to the premier league :)

Not too hard to go to premier league, if you play many tours and finishing in top1000. 1 tour a day is not enougth. Good luck with timing ))

Never played in this PS league...and i think i will never play .GL to those who play .

But there is reduced dependence on the dispersion. On top ranking tot- who plays better, and not won in a coin.

I finished just now top 100th. Yeah its true, good timing is important, even your AK suited dont shove your whole stack in late tournament if it seems badbeats occurs. If you see legit cards are winning, thats the right time to gamble also with good cards preflop.

If you were on the leaderboard example your in top 400, did you get really prize direct into your PS account automatically? I try last month but I failed ITM leaderboard PSO I got more 20 VPP last month but its useless for qualifying Premier League this month (my goal). Now, I will try again. I little confuse about "the slice of the prize pool of more than $11,800". If you got the prize directly into your account or it will take a long process like weeks or more.

You must be lucky 3-4x to go deep.

One more thing, have to have much time if want to be on the leaderboard.

i like to play in this league it's a different experience, but it's very hard to get into good positions i think, only one time i reached the 78 position, all the other times between 200 and 500, other times when i'm just tired start going all in all the time to finish it right away.. as they said.. you need a lot of time to play these tournament..

Not where you want to go to make big money but its an awesome feature if you want to play for free and learn while you do it.
I would recommend trying it out to anyone who is new to the site just to get a feel for things.

let's just say ...

... that there tournaments are fun.
And free ;-)

As the first poster already mentioned, it's nigh impossible to get anywhere by playing "normal poker".
His strategy tips concur with my experience: in the beginning you can only go with the absolute premiums, since on average 3 players per hand are all in, and one of them is bound to beat your AK, AQ oder AJ.
So in the early phase it has to be AA minimum ;-)

Once those mindless donkers have left the stage (96% of them do just that) you can start to play normally, however only in late position.
Or should I say "aggressively normally".

All in all - and this goes for most of the freerolls I've been in - these PokerSchool freerolls have little in common with "real MTT poker" but are fun and can sharpen your awareness for spots, situations and opportunities.

May you all win - unless I'm on your table ;-)

It's really hard to rank well on this tournament I can not understand how 1 arrived to take the first position 2 or 3 times in the same week? is not human.

The open skill league is not as hard as you think
It requires discipline , patience , proper planning
if u calculate properly in whole month you will have 168 games to play
for example your goal is to score 2600 points by the end of month
the average points u need to score is under 40 per day for which u have 6 games to get
as long as u make those points everyday u are in cool position to hit big
but the things get harder from 2100 + points line as field strenght effect comes into play which means we need to finish in a better position in each tourney to score those very same points
thats where the patience comes into play a lot
the priority is to get into + points first and then start playing
no ones just gets into better prizes just because they sitout
no matter what ,they have to play from 2200 points in order to get points and hit big

I am planning to play Open skill league next month with 20 vpps
and willing to start a thread about my plannings and daily progress

My aim is to finish big and obviously under top 3 which i believe that i need to score 2600-2700 points taking average per month into consideration

wish me luck

Last night i end 7th, you have to be patient with those freerolls. Just play and teach yourself from the mistakes you made and you will be rewarded. :)
