Hey everyone I was wondering if anyone heard anything about FTP or PS coming back to the USA. I ask this because I have been reading around and getting different answers. I mean I watched Kathy liebert say she thinks it wont be for 3-5 years on quadjacks. But I was just wondering if anyone heard anything I haven't.

Yeah WAY early in this process yet, but it is encouraging to see that at least there has begun to be some movement towards something like that happening.....eventually.

Since the US has a totally dysfunctional government, DO NOT HOLD YOUR BREATH! It will likely never be resolved at the Federal level.

However, according to the language seen in the recent announcements by Stars and the DOJ, it appears that individual states could open the market for a state by state return to online poker as we knew it.

Still....DO NOT HOLD YOUR BREATH.

No time-able return date yet, but Pokerstar is trying to get a license in Nevada, but don't hold your breath.

I see we have an optimist among us  . I actually think it will get done on the federal level...eventually....after some of the states legalize it, others continue to make it a capital offence, punishable by death, and still others have the ever-popular, "no opinion". In short once all the states get involved and create a crazy patch-work of who can and can't play I think those that can't will finally be pissed enough that they'll spur the feds to get off their asses, finally, and remove the barriers to online poker at the national level. Still, that's probably a ways away yet:mad: .

Maybe. I'm glad to see the states moving on this. It will keep the feds from passing a total online gaming ban which I'm sure a lot of our so-called reps would like.

I'm doubting they will ever re-enter the US market. Matter of fact it seems to me that I remember PS making a deal with the DOJ that prevents them from applying if it becomes "legalized" in the US. Maybe that was FTP? Anyway, it will need to be legalized at the federal level before PS would re-enter I'm guessing.

Why I believe there will never be a bill allowing OLP (online poker) at the federal level.

It will require a banking bill to allow money transfers to OLP sites. Not only are any banking bills being rejected out of hand by most Republicans, who say they favor fewer regulations, but by quite a few Democrats who are also courting the moral minority.

Neither party is courting the Free American (but both consider gun rights an attack on American's Freedoms). There is really no compelling reason for either party to 'rock the boat'.

Why and how the States might do this?

It will be easy to regulate within the states the ability to fund OLP via a personal visit to any Casino. This bypasses the UIGEA completely without requiring any Federal Banking Bills whatsoever.

Why would a Casino go along with this? Live bodies in the door is the best argument. I'll guess if 50% of the OLP funders stick around they will drop at least $20 somewhere in that building...be it slots, or dinner. It also gives each state government an 'in' to who is playing OLP, and for tax purposes the governments might be persuaded to go along, and with licensing policies they could force the casinos to come along.

I am not sure, but I believe I read somewhere that in general OLP does not affect attendance at Casino's. My gut feeling is that this could easily be a win/win for the Casino's. Casino branded skins into a bigger world-wide network could also generate monies forthe Casino. With local OLP games satelliting into regional live tourneys.

Keep in mind I would prefer it to be as it once was. But the evidence does not point at that ever happening on a Federal level.

Hmm....that's an interesting theory, DJ. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays-out. Unfortunately, I still think we are a long ways away from seeing anything definitive. There already are a few states persuing state-specific bills and a few that have already come-down on anti any type of online gambling. So, we'll see......

Nevada has already legalized online sports betting and so on... I do believe the state I live in will be the first and as an aforementioned poster stated... PS has applied for a license... I guess my state will be on the for front of it all... let's hope that it will be accepted and so on.

Sports betting has been legal in many states for quite a long time now. It was/is exempted in many laws, and IIRC even the UEGIA had exemptions for it. And, for the most part, I also believe that the Indian Tribes are not so well entrenched in Sports Betting as they are trying to be in Poker (and related Casino style games). Horse racing for instance has seemingly been good online for quite a while. Long ago the laws of the Wire Act were made to allow certain Sports Betting while aiming at eliminating the 'sleazy bookie' element.
