Continue to play $2, but start play a few $5's. If you feel comfortable and win a few times at $5, then move up. You want to ease into it.
Agree.
The game at $2 is still mainly full of poor play. To have succeeded at the $2 level, your game has to have solidified. That will help you at the $5 and above level.
While BRM theory has it that in an ideal world you might want 100 buy ins for your level, I'm of the opinion that you should be dabbling in the higher level games a bit earlier than 100 buy-ins. Don't go crazy, it will be much easier losing that money than building it up, but both the experience of the higher level game and the fun of a bit more risk should be rewarding.
If you have not played the $5 games, you might be a bit wary of the potential money loss. Scared money game play is your enemy. This will be true every time you increase a level. Think about it. Figure out how you can feel comfortable putting more money on the line WITHOUT feeling like you are risking it. You always are risking your money, tis the nature of the game, but that feeling of fear or panic, or any unsureness about the jump is your enemy.
So maybe while you are successful at the $2 game, you can start to notice things about yourself, and your play there and learn how to create those situations where you know you are in the groove. This is not easy, some find it easier than others, and some never learn it. I often wonder if I ever learned it.
At all levels the game is still poker.
