Hi,
I've been playing on pokerstars and i was in some tourney once and some guy was talking about farming tourney tickets or something like that... I asked him what he meant but he never got to explain. Anyone know?

Now in the request tab I'm seeing something about buying and selling "tournament $". Wth is that? Are these things/terms related?

I haven't googled it yet, but I'm new to the forum so I figured I'd give this a shot instead.

All help is appreciated.

I think tournament money is used for only tournments and u win can only win it from certain freeroll and satellite. Also tournament ticket is used for the tournament it is subscribe for. Well I know this is true for fulltilt, but not really sure if it the same in pokerstar, probably.

You got it. Sometimes a tournament ticket can be used to enter then withdrawn for tournament dollars. I also think that if you use a ticket to enter a tourny and you cash, you win tournament dollars not regular cash.

As for the guy 'farming tickets', I think he means he just plays a lot of satellite tournaments so he can win a lot of tickets for higher buy-in tournaments.

Well, here it is for Stars (as far as I know).
Playing satellites you can win a seat or a ticket to a tournament.
For example, you play a $3,33 satellite to the Sunday Warm-up, you win, you win a seat and you'll be automatically registered for the Main Event.
If you go there and unregister, you get $215 in tournament dollars, which you can use to register in any tournament you wish.
These cannot be withdrawn but only used for buying in in any tournament you wish.
Other satellites , if you win, gets you a ticket to another tournament and you'll have to use that ticket for that tournament.
Unregistering is not allowed.
Example PCA sats round 1 to round 2, if you win you cannot unregister from the path 2 round.

I actually don't think so.
If you play steps for example, for some events you can use steps C or D to buy-in in a main event.
If you cash in that event, I don't think you get tournament dollars.

Indeed you don't you always get the cash.

That's why I find tournament dollars just as valuable as cash.

Besides which, if this was ever the case this would be the most pointless thing in the world. It would virtually be play money as you would never be able to cash out anything as you automatically use tournament dollars first and then you win a prize and win more tournament dollars lol :p

The thing I love about tourney dollars is that if you use them to enter a tourney or a SnG and you don't cash, nothing happens to your cash bankroll and if you do cash then the full winnings are added to your cash bankroll without having to subtract any buy in/entry fee. So as long as you always have some tourney dollars in your account your cash bankroll will only ever go up (providing you don't blow it losing in cash games, that is). I think it's a great way of protecting your bankroll. It's also possible to sell tourney dollars for real cash on various websites although I've never tried that - I prefer to just use them to enter tourneys.

Tournament money on pokerstars

Okay so, on Pokerstars, there is only one situation in which you get credited with 'tournament money': you play in a satellite, win a seat, and then unregister from the target tournament?

Then, instead of them giving you a cash refund, they give you a 'tournament money' refund, which is a cash equivalent which can only be used for tournament buyins? And it is automatically used when registering for tournaments before your regular cash balance, until it is exhausted?

Have I got it right?

That's correct, yes all tournament monies is used first tournaments/SnG's etc until your tournament dollars are all gone. :)

Just so you are fully aware, if you cash in a tournament for whatever place using your tournament money to buy into, be it 1st or minimum cash you get credited with REAL money instead of tournament money.

Ok but who doesn't consider T$'s to be part of their bankroll? I figued everyone does. I preferred it on FTP when they didn't have these tournament tickets & instead it was always TourneyDollars (unless you won a token $25 or $75). I think that was far better then.

On Full tilt tournment dollars can be converted to real dollars. They take a % as fee so you don't get equal cash amount. i thinks for a $1 tournment dollar you get 95cents. On poker stars you can sell your tournment dollars to someone else and you pick the conversion rate. This was a while ago that i'm not sure but i think this is still the way now.
