Robochick
Legend
Silver Level
When I first set up my account on BOL, I entered my name and received a message of NO THAT IS ALREADY TAKEN. I tried a few more iterations of my name...NO THAT IS ALREADY TAKEN. It was just after Easter and we had bought a stuffed toy shaped like a baby chick that made a repeating chirp sound when you held it in your hand completing the circuit at the base of the toy. We had nicknamed this toy in my family as Robo Chick... and that is how I got the screen name. Simply because I was filling out the registration and I could not think of anything and it was right there.
Because of my screen name, I have had men chat the most disgusting things to me in their moments of defeat/triumph. For all they know, I could be a 15-year-old pimple studded geek boy, an octogenarian grandmother or a semi-hot maybe-a-little-past-her-prime person of anonymous origin who wants to know if these jeans make me look fat. Whatever, anyway.
So here is the thing: did I mess up on choosing my screen name? Should I start over again? It wouldn't be hard, but is it a thing? Do people discount your poker ability if you are perceived as female? Should I create a gender neutral name? Or perhaps that may be an advantage? Maybe if people underestimate you, you can gain an edge. I see aggressive names all the time and I take their money. Sometimes I see something that makes me think they are a casual player and then I watch them and their play is pretty good.
How much do you pay attention to someone's screen name and their icon? Is it better to have an anonymous name like user34987?
