I read this article in the Review Journal, our Las Vegas newspaper, about Ultimate Poker launching today, so I decided to go check it out. After all, it's been 2 years since I last played online. Went to the site, did a little reading, then clicked the Download button. After a few seconds, I got this message:

"The signature of UltimatePokerSetup.msi is corrupt or invalid"

Seems my anti-virus software doesn't like it too much. I was given no option to override it or continue in any way. I tried a dozen times to download, both trying run and save. No dice.

So I sent an email to them. And I got a robo-generated reply about how busy they were seeing as how it's their first day.

Really? At 12 midnight, in a state with only 2.7 million residents, the vast majority of whom couldn't care less about poker, and of the remainder, most of those don't care about online poker? Really?

This is not a very good start. In fact, it's pathetic. The software won't download to my machine, and they can't reply to my email.

I've already read some complaints about the UP software, that it can't be resized, won't run on the Macs, the windows are too small. But I'm willing to check it out anyway, except their support leaves MUCH to be desired. Whatever. Looks like I'm gonna be waiting a bit longer to play online poker again. :(

I saw an article about their launch on my homepage this morning. So far, they are only open to Nevada residents. But I was still curious and clicked a link to the full article. It said something about requiring players to provide a SSN# when registering. I don't know about that. I'm going to give them my name, address, a credit card number or bank routing information, or whatever and give them my social security number. I'm not saying that they aren't on the up and up, but stuff happens. Sites get hacked. We've seen in the past what one dishonest individual with access to the right account can do. I'm sure everyone remembers Russ Hamilton and the AP/UB superuser cheating scandal. I'm sorry. I just don't know if I could be that trusting.

Yes indeed, sites do get hacked. I don't see the purpose of providing a SSN. I don't recall ever being required to do that with any previous site. I'd guess that they want it for tax purposes in case you win big, but the casinos don't require a SSN before you actually do win, so I'm uncomfortable with this as well.

It has now been more than 12 hours since I sent an email to UP concerning my inability to download and install the software, and they still have not replied, aside from the robo-reply I got. I suppose lots of others are having the same problem.

I agree... they can ask for it on withdrawal. If it's over $4,999.00.

Otherwise, just like in the casino, give me my duckets, and leave me alone.

Hi there, could you tell me what anti-virus suite you are using? Is it possible to disable it temporarily to download?

We've also had some reports of individuals using Norton AV going into their quarantine folder, removing it from there, and running the install.

I had to D/L to windows via a parallels front end on my Mac until they get their Mac Version out, but the Avast security stopped the D/L only for a second asking basically if I trusted this site.

So full steam ahead.

TChan, if you want to fix something though the instruction links shown below are non-functional.

Where as it is legal they prob want the SSN for tax purposes. OP if you are running Norton, try disabling the fire wall for 10 min, I had to do that with Juicy and Lock.

Good luck

I use Norton. I know I could just disable the AV and do the download, but am unsure if that's wise to do. Over time, after enough Norton users have run the UP software without problems, the AV won't block it.
Anyway, apparently UP requires SSN's to verify identity. I'm really leery of disclosing my SSN.

I dont understand this at all.

For an on line poker player, if you win a 10K event and have the option to take a 10 minute drive over to the casino, walk to the cage and walk away with $4500 in green, whats suspicious about that?

Currently we have to wait weeks, sometimes months for the sites to bless us with our winnings.

Totally Agree with you

Yes, it sounds suspicious to me as well. I have been using online poker tools and have been quite successful in earning huge bucks.

While hunting the best poker tools I came across www.acepokersolutions.com which provides different software for differnt game playing needs and I am quite happy with their range of software. Guys its a must check!
