Seriously, signed up for a $50 free roll, had a snack and a smoke, came back to my computer and I was finished, the free roll had been running for 11 minutes and the blinds were at 15/30, hows this possible?

UB does that if you sit out they will kick you out of the game in the freerolls. also if you play one hand then sit out you will be in it til you are blinded out odd but true, so keep that in mind for the next one good luck

I actually like this function as way too often in freerolls there are 3-4 players sitting out per table. I know the B2B network does this as well, but the 10 minutes might a be a bit to little, 2 blind-levels (15-20 min) would be more fair

They don't push you all in they just remove you from the game.

This is one of the things I used to LOVE about UB. They took care of the freeroll sitters by removing them after the first level. (Sorry to hear they got you by mistake, though.)

How funny would this be really? Imagine you get bet QQ UTG and all of a sudden 4 sitouts are 'pushed' all-in?

Totally agree. A couple times I was right there the whole time, but never got a single hand worth playing where people weren't going all-in like crazy, so I got thrown out.

no, divebitch. you wouldn't have gotten thrown out if you were sitting there, because you would have manually have folded the hand showing you were there. If you sat there watching and never touched a button, let yourself be timed out on the first hand like you wern't there, then you would have been thrown out. Just tune in, manualy fold one hand, and you are there for the duration.

I just got the e-mail from UB explaining this, I suppose in all the free rolls Ive played I usually take my seat within the first 10 minutes, as far as it taking forever for the first hand this is not addressed by this function, as they still have to go around the first hand and establish that you are sitting out, now that I know I like the idea, it definitely makes it a smaller field which is nice but they should just do what poker stars does for the beginning of the tourney and make you manually sit in to cut down on the first hand. The first 10 min on UB are the stupidest 10 minutes of poker no matter what between the wait and the all ins, so who could blame someone for sitting the first part out out?
sorry if this was a repost, I honestly thought it was glitch.

here is the letter from UB in case anyone else is curious:

"Thank you for contacting us.

In freeroll tournaments, players are automatically eliminated if they show up ten minutes after the scheduled start time. Players who register for play money or freeroll tournaments must take their seat and actively play (check, fold, call, or raise) at least one hand within the first blind limit period. This is defined as the time between the first hand dealt and when the blind limits increase for the first time.

If a player has not taken this action within the specified period, they will be removed from their seat and their remaining chips will be removed from tournament action. If a player does take the minimum required action within the specified time, then they are entitled to sit out after that for as many hands as they wish.

If they are absent from the table, and then their blinds and appropriate antes are contributed to the pots until the absent player has no chips remaining.

Please note that no funds were deducted from your account since this was a freeroll tournament (no buy-in and fee were paid upon registration). We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you and we kindly invite you to join any other freeroll tournament of your choice.

Do not hesitate to contact us if you require further assistance or additional information.

Best regards,"

Well, I can swear that happened to me at least once. In all fairness, it was at Absolute. I assumed the software now for UB was exactly the same. Before the merge UB never folded you. According to UB's reply, you are correct. Although I thought it happened to me there too. It is possible that I got there a bit late, looked in a couple times, saw the bad hands, and continued to sit out rather than click the 'sit in' and manually fold.

I like this function, but whoever said that it speeds up play is mistaken, since after the first hand the missing players are autofolded and don't slow down play at all.

This function eliminates the second round of AIDs (All-In Donks) that I see on bodog-players that will sit out for the first 35-40 minutes and then when they do take their seats go AI immediately with garbage, hoping to quickly double up. Who needs to go through that crap more than once in a single tourney?

Always liked this idea. If your going to play, be there. Yes, you can't always be there on time, but they do give you some leyway. Now in a real money buy-in, who cares, just more money for the prizes. But then again, in real money tourneys 99% make it there on time.

No. If you pay a cash buy-in, it's your seat and chips til you blind out.

Yes, I agree with Dakota 100%. The game does not put you all in. You have to play at least one hand that is not the blind hand (or min. raise the blind), and it will count you as being present. If you do not play a hand you will be marked as absent and when the blinds are raised to the second level you'll get "bounced".

You can sit until you are blinded out. AS LONG AS YOU PLAY ONE HAND.

You know what I think happened to me? By the time it got to the BB or SB, and even in late position, I hit the check-fold button when I saw I had junk, without waiting for my turn - ya know, to speed things up. And I think I sat out a couple hands in early position KNOWING it would be raised (I don't remember doing so, but will admit I could be mistaken). Bottom line, I think hitting that check-fold or even the fold button too soon counts as sit-out, even though you're doing it manually.

Actually, most players could care less, since your blinds will be paid and your hands folded until you run out of chips, and the game isn't affected at all.

I don't mind them removing players if they don't show up but, 10 mins. is not enough time. I have been knocked off the site waiting for a freeroll to start only to get reconnected to late. They need to allow alittle more time.

Absolute poker does this also!

I think that FullTilt and pokerstars are two exceptions.

I like Any poker site that removes the sitouts from a tourney, especially freerolls. If they aren't there to play then take them out. It sucks to show up for a tourney and you are late 11 minutes, have done that also, but better for the rest of the players involved.

Good Luck and Good Games!
