I was finally at a table at the right limit when the jackpot hit:

Congratulations are in order! By taking your seat at a Bad Beat Jackpot table, you’ve won a king-size share of the latest jackpot that was hit at 02:56:02 on 2010-04-12. Check out all the details:

Bad Beat Jackpot: $467,189.31
Players’ Share: $131.47
Your Cut: $131.47

:)

$130 just for playing, not bad! And I was up for the session as well. Of course it would have been ever better if the bad beat had happened at my table, or to me... maybe next time.

I know your happy about your win and it is obviously a nice amount but is it really worth playing at the bad beat tables? The reason I ask is because of the extra rake at the table. I am just curious if you hit the jackpot enough to offset the rake. I don't think so but again, I have no experience at the table so not qualified to say. Again, not trying to take anything away from you but just asking.

That's a valid question, marginal. Holdem Manager doesn't keep track of regular rake and jackpot rake separately (unless there's a newer version I don't know about) so I can't be sure how much I've paid in jackpot rake. I can only go by not being an overall money loser at those tables.

Playing them only when the jackpot is high is a good way to increase one's chances of winning more than what's paid in jackpot rake. When the BBJ is high there are a TON of players at $50 NL and not all of them are very good. It's the lowest jackpot limit so if people are stepping up from their usual limits in order to take a shot at the BBJ, that's typically where they'll end up. And because of so many players at those tables, that's also where the jackpot is likeliest to hit.

In a way it's a bit like buying a lottery ticket at the store, and if you're also getting discounted groceries along with that ticket it tends to even out.

Yes, I like it. I actually play mainly on Absolute Poker, but they're basically the same site (Cereus network).

Congrats!!! Nice to get free money.

Marginal- I just read a nice article about this. I'll try and find the link. They had some nice charts to tell you when it was +ev to play them. It depends on several factors but basiclly when the jackpots over $350/375000 it's 0 to +ev.
