Turning Stone in New York?

I'm 18 so I am unable to play in regular casinos. Because of this I am traveling to New York from Maryland with my cousin for a weekend to play 1/2. Anyone know anything about the card room there. I might also participate in a tournament they have on the Saturday I'll be there.

Tourney rake is redonkulous: $100 buy in (prize pool) is something like +$20 rake, +$10 staff fee, +$2 to play in the room each day (!!!) = stick to the cash games.

Ya i have been there, I would stay away from tourneys as they take far far too much. Stick to cash games and try to win there. Gl hope you have fun in your first casino trip!!

Cash games there can be pretty soft, but are definitely some sharks... Look out for the huge stacks and have fun on the felt!

hey my local casino getting some pub, to bad its negative and true! The tournaments are ridiculous a 1/3 of your money goes to fees and don't forget its a dry casino which is also lame, I have done rather well in cash games there though, stick to them and only them as the other poster stated correctly!

Hey all--I had a great time. The first night i was up $380 playing 1-2, but on the second day my trip Qs got rivered by a gut shot who had called for $50 on the turn and i ended up out $250 bucks. I still ended up $120 for the trip, but it really should have been around $700--still It was cool playing in a casino for the first time.

Stick with the cash games there and grind. Tourneys are way too expensive.

I realize that this thread is a bit old but I just wanted to drop a quick message say that tonight was the first time for me and one of my friends. We played only NLHE $1/$2 cash game and both profited decently.

At about 2:30 PM we sat down to a fairly quiet table, conversationally speaking. There were a few people that would chat with you but it seemed mostly hush hush. The games seemed fairly soft with a lot of young faces. Some of these young guys know what they are doing though. I basically picked my spots and played strictly TAG. My king high flush was paid off nicely to another flush where a he held 103 suited. Thats the type of action that makes me fuzzy on the inside.

Later, we happened to sit at a table with a fair amount of regulars and they were more than happy to chat it up. They told us that Saturdays are THE day to show up. They claimed that many young players show up with the minimum buy in of $50 and play a bit too loose. I generally found this to be accurate.

They also have a thing called stack attack where the house will draw a random table and add $100 to the next pot. It hit the table multiple times while I was there for about an hour and a half. I was told it was actually a very rare thing to have it pop up over and over like that. Sadly, I was dealt 28os on the first one a sub-par holding of J8 os the second time. What can you do?

The staff was very friendly and more that happy to chat away with you...with the exception of one rude dealer. That's just less tips for him as far as I'm concerned. The pace was good if you ask me. The drinks come around fast. No alcohol by the way.

I had a great time and I will be sure to go back.

Turning Stone is one of the casinos I've always wanted to hit, probably because I like upstate New York so much, though I haven't been there in ages. Their tourney info does seem a bit dodgy and disappointing. It is good that people reported that the low level cash games there seem to be worth the effort.
