Zoom Poker is another addition to the wide selection of poker variants that are offered on PokerStars. You should play the games that have the most appeal for you. It should be fun! Everything else comes next. To give you more input for you choice, here are some benefits of playing Zoom Poker:
Zoom Poker makes it easy to start a session. Table selection is not really an issue. You simply choose your game and your stakes, and get dealt in. Less table management will give you more time to concentrate on playing rather than preparing.
The game of Zoom Poker is new and not deeply understood. Your opponents might make more mistakes than they would normally would. Because of the big action, players might go on tilt more easily. Take advantage of it!
Not knowing your opponents and vice versa can be a big advantage. Moves that might be wrong in normal ring games, might be very profitable in Zoom. For example, you could now start to reraise more often or bluff certain board textures.
If you happen to play against certain opponents more than once, taking notes will allow you to increase the amount of information that you can use.
Playing more hands per hour means more VPPs for you. With Zoom, it gets easier to climb up the VIP levels. Higher VIP levels will offer you more value, like tickets to freerolls with bigger prize pools or access to exclusive items in the VIP shop.
I like this response, and would like to add some points to it.
1. Regarding table selection, the biggest advantage is that you're not running into bumhunters (usually grinders and other regs that hunt down soft spots). So you're playing against other people, probably very similar to yourself, who are not online pros and are looking to play a game where you feel like you have a chance to win.
Side note: There's a lot of talk about things that will hurt
online poker (obvious things like lack of regulation, cheaters, bots, etc.), well, bumhunters is another one that isn't mentioned in the conversation nearly as much as it should. People like that are what drive players away.
2. The ease of starting/ending a game anytime you want makes it convenient and easy to play. If you don't have time to invest in playing an MTT (or multiple MTT's), then you still can get your grind in, even if it's a short session.e
3. It is less difficult to accumulate VPP's (for your VIP level) and FPP's (to spend in the VIP store), but at the same time, keep in mind that you'd have to grind long hours if you are a single tabler, or else you'd need to multi-table. I tend not to multi-table since I want to make the best decisions possible, and I find it works for me fairly well.
4. As far as reads go, while you lose the advantage of having them on players, it also works to your advantage in that they won't have a read on you either. I'll cite an example in a Zoom hand I played the other day.
I had 67 of diamonds, 3 players to the flop (2.5x raise pre).
Flop was 589 (58 of diamonds) so I flopped a straight and had a re-draw to a straight flush. I led out, and got two shoves behind me, so I called.
Villain 1: A9 (no diamonds)
Villain 2: Pocket 10's (no diamonds)
Unless the board runs out REALLY bizarre, which it didn't in this case, I won 2.5 buy-ins (micro stakes), which was a nice little win for me.
Just remember, any disadvantages that you have with playing Zoom, most everybody else is dealing with those too.
