Hey,

I wish I could remember to use the poker web sites right click button to take notes on the other players. It seems like I am always forgetting in the heat of battle. UGH! What types of things do you guys put in. Are they real general, or do you guys input very detailed things?

Read this.

I write things like:
big bet: medium hand; slowplays the nuts; semi-bluffer; min bet: strenght; always represents the flop; pot size bet: weak hand; etc.

It´s nothing too much specific. You don´t need to take notes to know the essential things like if a player is tight or loose and passive or aggressive, but i like writing some details (specially betting patterns) that i can read them afterwards to have a little guide on the most probable range of hands my opponent can have.

I try to make a note on one player at each table. Be warned, that bad notes are worse than no notes at all. Without a mountain of evidence, it's hard to make any relevant observations about another players style. Early on I found myself mostly taking notes on the bad players after a suckout until I realized that it was just sour grapes, and that I didn't need a note to spot a maniac in the 1st 10 minutes. I now try to avoid editorializing. I keep my notes very simple. Whenever there's a showdown I will record what each player played and from what position. Done. At FTP there is also the option of color coding another player. I use red for good or solid play, and green for bad.
More often than not I'll have a note on at least one of the other players at a table.
Examples.
Call EP 10,8s
Call Min raise Button A,5
RR MP 4,4 ( reraised from middle position with 4,4)

Honestly, taking notes really doesnt help me much because I am usually at the .10/.25 tables. There are so many players at this level that I dont see the same one at two different tables very often. If I know i'll be at the same table for a long time it may help, but otherwise its not really worth it.

The most important notes for me are the calling stations, and which players are easily pushed around. That way I know to reign in my aggression on these type of players.
