do you have the habit of taking note of a player?how do you do that?
Rencently i was reading a poker book which emphasized the use of write down notes about your opponents.I think it is wasting time.

Sorry, I can`t agree.

I feel it is very important to study any hand that goes to showdown and deduce information about your opponent such as:

How aggressive is he preflop ?
Will he make a continuation bet ?
Will he represent the flop or try to buy a pot ?
Is he prepared to bet against an overcard ? against a flush ?
Will he chase a draw ?

and so on and so forth. All this is invaluable in helping you to put that player on a hand when you are in a pot against him. If it helps you to win just one big pot per session which you would otherwise have lost, it may be the difference between being a winning or a losing player overall.

Absolutely agree with Egon. Taking notes is the difference between correctly folding a hand against one player and in exactly the same situation correctly reraising all in against another.

I dont take notes because, pokertracker and pokeracehud give me all the info I need on someone. If I didn't use that stuff though yes I would take notes all the time.

Notes help me immensly. If you play at one site mostly you will run into a lot of players that you have played against. The ones that i like are the ones that spell out the donk plays that the player has done. I wait for the same situation and BAM! mucho bucks to me.

as regards how aggressive a player is , i know some software can calculate the odds 'aggression%'.And i usually believe my overall impression of a player's aggression degree.
But i am curious how poker tracker could offer all the info about a player? Can a tracking software replace manual notes?

It doesn`t need to. You can use PT alongside and in addition to your manual notes. This is what I do, and I think you`ll find that Irexes and many of the other successful players do too.

PT will supply precise figures for things like number of hands played and aggression, which will be more accurate than your own impressions. This then frees up your note space to record some of the other kinds of info I mentioned above, about how the opponent plays specific types of hands and situations.

I'm with Egon. There's no such thing as too much information. PT provides the hard stats, notes provide specific examples of hands and comments about style and approach.

Also PT won't tell you if a player is a "complete tw*t" which I often make a note of :)
