Synchronizing PokerTracker-Problem solved
I've been using the popular sniffer Poker Tracker for about 9 months now and like many PT hounds, I'm as addicted to the software as I am to the game itself. I easily spend as much time reviewing my sessions and those of professional players as I do playing. Since I only had the software installed on my desktop I rarely if ever used my laptop for fear of losing a valuable session or tournament. If I did, I was sure to email the HH to myself so that I could add it to my database the next time I used the desktop.
The folks at PT are very good about allowing their product to be used on multiple systems, but from what I understand, synchronizing 2 seperate databases was a nightmare, and since I enjoy playing on the desktop more than the laptop anyway I never bothered to try. The only times I felt any regret was when I was on the road with my laptop and wanted to spend some time digging for leaks.
I recently had the misfortune of losing both my 5 year old desktop and my cheap 3 year old laptop within a month of eachother. I've replaced both with new systems running Windows Vista and decided that this time I would attempt to reload PT on both, but the laborious synchronizing problem still loomed large.
But I believe I've come up with an excellent sollution to the problem. Instead of installing PT on my desktop and then requesting yet another product ID (required for registering) for the laptop, I purchased a small 60GB portable hard drive and installed the software on it. And by small, I mean tiny. It's really no bigger than a pocket calculator and cost only about $80.00. I also installed my poker site
software and all my poker related files to the same hard drive. I now have perfect mobility. My portable hard drive can be taken anywhere. If I want to play on the laptop in the kitchen (or the bathroom) I simply unplug the USB calble and ZING, it's all right there. And as I have also installed the poker site software, Full Tilt, all my player notes are carried along as well.
Even if you don't use Poker Tracker or another product like it, I still think it's the way to go. I keep a spread sheet of all my sessions which includes buy-ins, number of opponents dates, winnings and hands played. That's on the portable as well.
Gotta go. Time to hunt for Eggs. Have a happy Easter everyone.
